What was your sweetest championship as a fan?

We don't actually play the games, but sometimes we watch them like we're part of the team. And now that my long suffering Blackhawks might be on the verge I have to reflect.

Being an in-state homer, mine are:

1) Bears Superbowl victory - I was just a kid, but Walter Payton was my first athlete idol. I lived and died when they lost the playoff game the previous year (I think to the 49ers), and the next year I treasured every moment of those dominant playoffs en route to the title.

The Bears SHOULD have been undefeated that year.

2) Jordan's first title. I loved that team. By the end of the finals they were the best NBA team I've ever seen.


None of the teams I root for consistantly have ever won a major NCAA championship.

Other than that, Angels world series.

Ducks were pretty sweet just because they are an expansion team.

I'm a Yankees fan and even I enjoyed watching. Also enjoyed the '86 Mets, and the '96 & '98 Yanks.

My favorite was the Giants-Pats superbowl though. Everything about it was amazing. The fact the Giants were such huge underdogs, the fact it was a New England team they were playing against, their audacity to have already published a book about their perfect season, the Boss -owning- the halftime show... man <3

Chalmers hits the three at the buzzer to send it into overtime. Just insane. The fact that it happened while I was at my favorite bar in Lawrence with all my friends blows my mind. For me, it won't be topped.

I've never liked the Pistons but I'll admit to releasing a squeal of joy when they tore that team apart piece by piece after having to listen to the grotesque, slobbery love-fest the press had with that Lakers team all year...

Watching that foregone conclusion go up in smoke was a thing of beauty.

As for me... I'm a Seattle fan. So I'm pretty much resigned to celebrating a few great conference championships.

Upcoming Hawks victory. Otherwise, Jordan's first Championship. White Sox, although I am a fan of them, only very casually and I celebrated, it didn't mean anything to me or evoke any sort of emotional response like the Hawks or Bulls do/did.

well, the only championship any of my teams has won in my lifetime is the phillies 2008 WS so i guess its that by default.

Wasn't alive to see the Bears win the superbowl, Cubs aren't ever going to win the World Series, and while I did love the Bulls' run as a kid, I don't watch the NBA anymore.

That leaves the Buckeyes and their crazy '02 football national championship.

Until my Boilers win it all in Houston in 2011, my best was the 2006 ALCS/WS, even though we lost. The turnaround from previous years was what made it.

Other than that, the Wings' Cups I guess. Hard to get too excited when they win it that often, though.

Penguins Stanley Cup last year (was the first in my lifetime). Steelers championships are a distant second. I like the steelers and all, but pro football is no hockey.

I would love to see Penn State get one, but I don't think that will happen any time soon. If that were to happen, it might go ahead of the hockey championship.

I'm not old enough to remember the 1992 championship, but the 2009 season was awesome. Especially since I'm still in school. Ingram winning Alabama's first Heisman was cool too.
