I live in Texas.

That season gave rise to the whole 'which conference is better' debate, in which every fan says it's between their conference and the SEC.

Not to mention the amateur status of that USC team is laughable.

I never really understood the fascination with the '72 summit series. IT was merely an exhibition game, but i guess during the cold war, it was an important diplomatic event.

2002 gold, it's like the US didn't even show up.

2010 gold, simply amazing, it was intense.

BTW-I've been a Lakers fan since the early 1990 so I remember a number of games against the Bulls that didn't go my way. But we have Phil Jackson now.

Just to clarify - Rodman was not on the first three teams. The trio of stars was Jordan, Grant, Pippen.

I did enjoy the Rodman years as well, but The 72 victory season seemed more like a victory tour than an actual basketball season; It was like the globe trotters doing exhibition games. And by that time the first three titles had removed all of the "wow" and novelty factors.

The very first team doesn't have the record, because they were still finding their championship groove during the regular season. I think they even had some losing streaks because of injuries.

But by the end of the year they were they hungriest, most dominant team I've ever seen. I think they would have beaten the 72 victory team in a seven game series.

I still have the 6 chicago Tribune newspapers from days after the six titles.

We don't actually play the games, but sometimes we watch them like we're part of the team. And now that my long suffering Blackhawks might be on the verge I have to reflect.

Being an in-state homer, mine are:

1) Bears Superbowl victory - I was just a kid, but Walter Payton was my first athlete idol. I lived and died when they lost the playoff game the previous year (I think to the 49ers), and the next year I treasured every moment of those dominant playoffs en route to the title.

The Bears SHOULD have been undefeated that year.

2) Jordan's first title. I loved that team. By the end of the finals they were the best NBA team I've ever seen.


None of the teams I root for consistantly have ever won a major NCAA championship.

same for me. i also thoroughly enjoyed the miami heat championship. i thought wade deserved that one. and the recent celtics win was one i enjoyed as well.

i actually enjoy championships with star players who work hard. with the exception of kobe. dude just rubs me the wrong way.
