where does the 7950 even fit into this list.
R9 270X, Firestrike >5500, <225w power consumption, Renamed 7870 GHz Edition, Pitcairn XT (175w TDP for the 7870 GHz Edition)
R9 280X, Firestrike >6800, <300w power consumption, Renamed 7970, Tahiti XT (250w TDP for the 7970)
and why a 290 and a 290x...like some said a $100 filler card to make the x more expensive?
I have to agree unless the 290x is $399 (no way) then I will wait until next may
A 7950 depending on the clock speed is between 6000 and 6700 in Firestrike
Speculation: We will probably see a cut down R9 280X later (aka 7950) but it will have less focus in retail/online than the real R9 290X for yields are much better on 28nm than they were a year ago. AMD would rather sell you an over clocked 270X. Only way this will change is Nvidia forces Radeon to compete in that price point.
Known: We will also eventually see a R9 290 that is a cut down version of the R9 290X. It may not happen till after christmas though for Radeon would rather you spend more money for the R9 290X.
-----------------------------
If you can get a 7950 3gb at a price around $200 I think you should buy now and not wait till later. The 7950s are being phased out at clearance prices and thus you are getting a better prices than MSRP for said cards. Currently on newegg there are 5 different cards 7950 cards (4 of them being the 7950 boost edition) retailing for $205 to $225, after MIR said cards are $180 to $200.
Furthermore you also get 3 free games from most retailers for most retailers particpate in the Never Settle Forever promotion.
The reason you shouldn't buy a 7950 is you don't care for performance per dollar, you just want the best performance (for example 1440p or eyefinity and you do no want to deal with crossfire.) If you are such a person you are waiting for the R9 290X and possibly the R9 290. Performance per dollar be damn.
