I'm doing a school report and it involves building a computer from scratch. I need to know some good websites to look around on. I need everything from CPU to TOWER to MONITOR to MOTHERBOARD......................EVERYTHING. Thanks guys.
Most people at AT swear by newegg. I generally go to Directron or Axiontech because they're close to my house. I prefer Directron because the people that run that place are great to deal with. The 16 year old punk kids that run Axion's store front all need spankings. <------- Damn, that makes me sound like an old man.

googlegear has a mixed history but i took a chance anyway
also atacom is in my book higher but customer service is tops why i ordered from them and even though they couldn't ship(out of stock)3 phone calls one from them asking what they should do
2 from me to change the order and ask questions were all very pleasant and quick answers
I used to work a couple miles from Atacom. They're a mailorder only outfit, but they allow customer pickups. Great customer service too. They're also just up the street from USSA. I haven't bought from USSA before, but occasionally they have some tempting prices. Since I moved north, I've been sending most of my business to Newegg.
I deal with Axiontech, personally. They're really good about shipping costs and order tracking, although they really should get an 800 number. Can't say I've had to deal with the store people as I live in NY state and Axiontech is in Texas.

They have a decent variety, and frequently have sales on case/cpu fans and coolers that could set you back big time from a have-everything online store like newegg. Also a good place to find your top of the line fans and coolers.
Mwave. My general purpose preference. I got burned several times from NewEgg. directron.com. I really like their selection of cases. Millisec, 2cooltek. Good places for cooling parts. Cheap shipping. CaseETC.com. Good for obscure case parts like neon and watercooling.
Yahoo Shopping When I want to find a specific part at a good price.
I've used them all and not had a problem. Mwave had excellent service when I needed to return a mobo.
I like Newegg when making larger (higher $) purchases. But for smaller things, like rounded cables, their shipping is outrageous. $6 shipping for an $8 cable??!!

A couple vendors I forgot: Best Byte is a cool parts shop. Their selection isn't great, but their prices are very good and they have a large selection of fans. Also consistently the fastest shipping of any online outfit I've ordered from.
I've also bought a few things from Crazy PC since they have a decent selection O/C gear (and is the only place I've seen 50-pin,3 device, rounded SCSI cables. )
A new one I found fairly recently is Just Deals. It's a "yahoo" store, and they mostly specialize in surplus hardware, but they have some pretty cheap gear (like a Chaintech Socket A board for $27)
When I built my PC over a year ago, I went to Priceline.com and researched the cheapest price for the parts (which I researched on tech websites such as AnandTech) figuring in the cost of shipping. I used newegg, powerstartpc, gogocity, upgradeplanet, cardcooler, & z-buy. After my initial purchase, I returned to newegg to purchase my video card. Their website was the most pleasant to shop at. Hope this helps some.
