17" MAG 786PF

No idea what resolution I'll be able to run it at on my box.

I'm hoping for smooth play at atleast 1024x768/medium-detail.

Imma gonna tweak up teh DoomIII so that it runs 1280x1024 on my overclocked R9700PRO. I'm sure I'll be able to turn down the lighting/shadows so that I get decent FPS at that resolution. If it's not possible I may negotiate w/ Rollo for his 6800NU.

Oh yeah, the monitor is a 17" Samsung 171s LCD.

I will playing on my 19" NEC FE 950+. I also might hook my computer up to my 65" widescreen becuase my TV has a VGA in port so I don't lose quality like using the TV out function in my video card.

Hopefully it will go great on high settings at 1280x1024 + 8xAF

Any doubters?

6800nu will only support medium settings, I'm hearing.

Thanks. Yes, it surely has. So is the "you'll need a $400 card to play on high" theory. Even so the differences between med and high were slight IMHO.

Coolbits should be able to help me O'C this puppy I assume...

17" Sony CRT on a BFG FX5900 XT at 1024x768 with as much eye candy as it can muster until I build an A64\6800GT system.

it should according to HardOCP . . . Make that Pro an XT and you have my GPU and the same monitor . . . 10x7 or 11x8 is the "best" i can really get on that Samsung anyway - 12x10 drops to just below 80Hz . . . still a nice monitor for a 'value' system.

And i am LOVING Thiefeadly Shadows . . . the story (and the gameplay) just keep getting better . . . i'm in the haunted orphanage/insane asylum . . . if Doom III is creepier . . . (wow!)

. . . looking forward to it . . . gotta finish Thief this weekend . . .

hmmm, did you see the latest Hard OCP review today? I think they showed a reasonable system playing well on high with that card. I'll link it:

http://www2.hardocp.com/image.html?image=MTA5MDc4NzE0M1RPNjJBTU9FV1hfN18zX2wuZ2lm

Is that card the same as evga's 6800 NU?
It's not the same as it doesn't come pre-overclocked, but the potential is the same. At any rate the "it will have to play on medium FUD " has been debunked.
didn't that "FUD" come from id?

Yes, I did read it today. They ran a system almost identical to mine (I have 1GB of RAM, they ran it with 512MB) and they were able to play with high image quality settings. I am feeling pretty good about that.

My buddy at work was just talking to me about Thief 3 yesterday, he says the same things about it, too. He is really digging the graphics on it. He's got the same rig as mine except he has a 6800 Ultra rather than a 9800 Pro.

I have a lot of gaming to do before I buy Doom3. I just beat MOHAA yesterday and started CoD today. After I beat CoD I have to play through Far Cry. Then I'll have a clear plate to start Doom3. Yes, I am just now playing those games for the first time. I like the WWII games after all...
