What will you do with money left over from upgrading to RYZEN?

Even with Intel's incoming response on comparable parts, what will you do with the money you save when upgrading to Ryzen?

Better components? Leave it in the bank? Buy a mocka latte?

I'm not sure I understand your premise. How am I saving money by upgrading to Ryzen? Not trying to be a jerk, just genuinely curious.

Ryzen is definitely a good deal for what you're getting, but all of the announced parts are somewhere between the high-end of mainstream and the low-end of HEDT CPU prices. That's more than most people, even many gamers, usually pay for a CPU. I guess if you were planning to upgrade to a new Intel HEDT system, then Ryzen is now a cheaper option, but that's a tiny, tiny, minority of people.

You can build an entire Ryzen 1700/X system for the cost of just the Intel 6900K CPU. For a workstation build, that is yuuuuge. I've been hitting the limits of my 4C/8T for a while now so the 1800X was a day 1 preorder for me.

Won't be saving any money. Might even be more expensive compared to the build I was thinking about due to much higher memory and Mobo prices compared to Black Friday.

Only people who would be getting a 6800 or higher would be saving real money atm

For lot of people the 7700K is the highest they would aim for budget wise and the 1700 only offer a small budget win and it is a sucky time to build a new PC:
-Atm memory is almost double the price what it was 6month ago specially the lower end 2133-2666 , for regular none OC builds
-SSD also increased a bit in price. So if you need a new build you already are spending extra.
-Motherboards only look cheap compared to the X99 lineup so again nothing for a mid-low end builder yet

I think the real money saving for regular consumers will start when more B350-A320 and the R5/R3 range are available. The R5/R3 leaks so far looks like a no brainer compared to 7100-7600 range.

I'm going to pimp my case out with NZXT RGB controller and AER fans, some vinyl artwork for my case and put the rest towards Vega

Those 6900k prices are going to come down, though. Some are saying they're gonna be around $700 soon. I get your point, but let's face it, people on an i7-7700k budget aren't saving much. Total system cost for the 1800x is actually higher than the 7700k, which is appropriate since you're getting so much more for your money.

I'm not saving any money at all. What I wanted to do was go Bristol Ridge -> Raven Ridge, and both would have been sub $200 CPUs (probably). But they wouldn't sell me Bristol Ridge so . . . whatever.

Next up, Vega?

It's fine for me. I'll be selling my 6700K system to a local who wanted me to build him a gaming PC in the summer. He gets a good price, I save money and hassle shipping parts all over the country, and everyone is happy.

Myself? I will upgrade my computer so my wife can get my components and she won't keep keep track of me saying "I'm cheap and only holding out for better deals"

Ryzen is looking pretty good but I'm waiting for the actual Anandtech review before I get too excited.

New hst12 sub for cinema with a xmax of 3.8cm.
Audiolense software and calibration mic.
New asus soundcard with ess 9016 dac.
That covers some of the money i saved going oc 1700 vs 6900.
But there is so many money left i dont know what to do with them.
Perhaps a samsung s8?

I wasn't in the market for a $1,000 CPU so I probably won't be saving anything if I pick Ryzen over a 7700K.

I'm not upgrading yet, since I already have a Core i7 3770 in my gaming rig. Even if the $300 Ryzen part lives up to all of the hype currently surrounding it, I doubt that it will be more than twice as fast as what I already have. I usually don't start craving a CPU upgrade until I can get something with three times the speed of what I have now with a sub $300 price tag.

Give it to Nvidia because they keep hiking the cost of their premium GPUs that have no equal on the high end of the spectrum.

AMD giveth and Nvidia taketh away.

You can also get 16C/32T Xeon V4 combo for the cost of a 6900K, 6900K price is just ridiculus.
