What works and what doesnt' work game wise in Win2k

I am recently considering running win2k on my machine since ME is buggy and a system hog and 98 has too many patches to apply at the moment. However, I was told that most games do not work on Win2k. I need to find out what games do work and what games don't. Especially on my list here of games that I already have...is there something special I need to do to them to get them working or what? the games I play a lot are: Resident Evil 3 Nemesis, Oni, Unreal Tournament Game of the Year Edition, Need for Speed 5: Porsche Unleashed, Homeworld and Cataclysm, American McGee's Alice in Wonderland, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, and the classic...Starcraft. I also have HalfLife and some other games, but I don't play them as much. Plz let me know what I might have to look out for when attempting to play these games on my comp. Also, applications wise...are there a lot of problems? I would really appreciate those who can help me out.

even if games do run under 2k i find they are slower
easiest solution is to dual-boot
when you want to play games you can under ME or 98 and for the rest, 2k.
setting up a dual boot is easy, i'm sure you can find tons of posts about it is these forums, or if you need help just reply here and i'll try.

just make sure you install 98 or ME first, then 2k

oh so I can't just go over to 2k all at once? What if I run a dual boot, can I set it up to run one OS most of the time unless I want to run the other one? Because all I really want is an OS that is stable enough to run games fast and not have to reboot every day because of the system acting up.

when you dual boot, a screen comes up when you first boot asking what os you want to load....so when you're in 2k you're totally in 2k and it has nothing to do with 98...so if you feel like playing a game you restart, pick 98 and start it from there...

2k is the bomb, it never crashes, settin up like this is worth it

hmm if I do consider running a dual boot, can I run it on a different HD than the windows HD? cuz then I could go ahead and install NT5 now on my 45gb HD that is ata100 and 7200 rpms. but I dunno if it works that way.

Actually most games play well on win2k, and the OS is extremely stable. After I installed win2k, I dual booted for about a week and wasn't using win98 and uninstalled it. That was 8 months ago.

The games I play on your list, Unreal tournament..runs great, THPS needs a patch for win2k..then runs great, Half life..runs great, I haven't tried the rest.

I also play, Quake 2,3..both great, MDK2..runs great, Diablo 2..great, Boarderzone..Great, Deus EX..Great,Thief 2..Great on and on.

It should be which games don't run on win2k.

Win2k Runs every game I've tried. As long as you have GOOD hardware and updated drivers you will be fine with most every game. I will NEVER go back. Win2k has met every demand that I need in an OS. As for game performance, if you lose any at all it's very small.
People who try to tell you Win2k is no good for games are really not well informed. Drivers have come a long way...

If you want to be certain of having your games run properly I would dual boot. I have encountered a couple of games that run fine on other people's Win 2K machines but refuse to do so on my Win 2K machine. My machine has all the latest drivers, but the last updates were a while ago, so I assume that is the reason. Win 2K should run alright as long as you have the most current drivers for all your hardware though.

EDIT: NFS5 Porsche Unleashed is one of the games that refuses to run properly under Win 2K. I would strongly reccommend that you dual boot if you want to run NFS5 on your machine.

The best place to find out if ANY program is compatible with 2000 (or NT for that matter) is www.ntcompatible.com.

It lists just about every game and program you can think of. Furthermore, they also post tips/tricks to get some pesky programs running under 2000. Very easy to search too.

Personally, I don't play a lot of games, but I have had very few problems. Just keep drivers updated and be sure to install Service Pack 1. The service pack itself fixes a lot of game incompatibilities.

NFSU does work ok, but you have to use the no-cd patch. I won't post a link to it, but you should be able to find it ok.

I installed NT5 last night in dualboot with ME. I just need to run UT in it with decent FPS. Is there anything special I need to do to run UT GAme of the year edition in NT? Or just install it, plz lemme know cuz I have a clan practice tonite that I cannot miss. thx

Bleem!, Puzzle fighter (PC version), NeoRageX all don't work in win2k. Argh!
