What would happen if I deposited this check early?

So I picked up my paycheck today but it's post-dated to 12/31. Yeah I know I need direct deposit ftw and I'm trying to fix that, but in the meantime I really need some cashola (aka scrilla). Think Chase would let me deposit it even tomorrow and get some cash out of it?

And I'd rather avoid Currency Exchange and the like.

they will call your work and let them know. wherever you work will call you in for a "talk" with HR. where they will fire you for trying to cash it early even though it says to wait. since you are untrusthworthy and scum.

Don't do it man...they'll probably cash it as I don't think checks CAN be postdated but you could possibly be disciplined at work.

it depends, if the teller notices, they might not let you deposit it, but they probably won't notice and it will go through

it isn't like they have a date reading machine to keep it from moving the money to your account

my pay days are every 2 week.. but my husband's are on the 15th and the last day of the month..unless either of those days falls on a weekend or a holiday. so he gets paid to the closest business day BEFORE those dates.... meaning he got paid today since its the holiday weekend.

If I had direct deposit I'd be like that. Got to get on that...

Deposit it at the bank after business hours tomorrow, they won't clear it until Tues but you'll have $100 or so available in your account (depending on your banks policy).

Deposit it.

Now Tuesday's a national holiday, it won't clear until Wednesday at the earliest.

it may not be a bank holiday. Federal offices will be closed except for vital offices, and there will be no mail. The NYSE will not trade.

It won't be a national holiday: Text

"He has asked people to gather in places of worship to honour his memory and ordered non-essential government departments to close."

I know I'll be working Tuesday.

Deposit it today, it'll post to your account Tuesday. Use checks all weekend FTW, since they won't get posted til after Tuesday.

I was actually pretty sure it was illegal to (intentionally) post-date checks.

However, it sounds like your company just has a "normal" pay schedule of the 15th and the last day of every month, so the check is probably just dated automatically.

I don't think there'd be any harm in depositing/cashing it.

You can, but it's not legal. Take that check to the bank and they will cash it if you are in the U.S. If the teller gives you crap, ask to talk to the line manger. They'll cash it.

<-- longtime married to a banker.

Little known fact. Banks cannot be closed for more than 3 days in a row. And since monday is already a holiday, by law, banks must be open on tuesday.

Just deposit the check using the ATM. The bank won't care about the post date as long as you company has enough funds to cover the check. I deposit my post-dated pay check twice a month since I always get my pay check early and never had a problem.
