What would you buy? A 46 inch LCD or 42 Plasma for 300 Less

I cant decide between the two. I want to watch this in the living and I want to hang it above the fireplace.

I was told by some friends that a 46inch LCD with 720p is not good.

My budget is 1k. What would you pick? Thanks

Plasmas are susceptible to burn-in early in their lifespan (first 500 hours I believe), so the question is: what are you going to do with the TV?

I am an idiot how is it going to be 1000ish on black friday? I thought it was going for 1300 and the 720p is 1000.

Thanks,

nope

any plasma from the last 3 or so generations has an extremely unlikely chance of burn-in; and it's the first 100 hours that you want to wean the set to: reduce this chance even further, and to help mature the phosphors, extend the panel's life.

honestly, I was still believing this burn-in BS a year ago. Even then it was an issue of the past--but I wasn't looking into anything about HDTVs at that time. got an impulse BF deal on a Samsung, so I started reading up on it.

as for the OP, even though a prefer Plasmas for PQ way more than LCD, that seems like a reasonable premium to pay for going 1080p and a little more size. ...and wait until Friday to get it cheaper.

EDIT: Oh yea--wrong forum.

how far away are you going to be sitting? going from 720p to 1080p is not noticeable if you're too far away.

Actually a Samsung rep via phone told me that for PC usage they recommend their LCD sets vs Plasma because of IR issues (sometimes referred to as burn in). Take it for what you will.
