Hello Group,
I am thinking about getting the Samsung Galaxy 3 8" tablet, they are going for $299.oo so before I make the plunge I thought I would come in here and ask you guys/gals, what Tablet would you buy for around the same price range ($299.oo - $350.oo)

I liked the Samsung Galaxy NOTE 8" tablet but I cant justify the price differential for basically the stylus pen and yes there are a few more things the NOTE has but my use would be for pleasure and not work or school (retired old fart here )

Thanks for your replies and have a great day!
Jake

Nexus 7

I guess it really depends on how badly you need that S-Pen. If you need the pen, then I guess the Note 8 is the way to go (or maybe Note 10 2014). If pen isn't a requirement, I love the Nexus 7 a lot more, stock Android is less cluttered and feels faster, the screen is really nice, and I really like the soft touch back material more than glossy Samsung plastic.

Thanks guys, I'm looking at reviews now on the Nexus 7. I'm not really interested in a stylus pen but the Note 8 does has some other things in it as opposed to the Samsung Galaxy 3 8" tab that I like.

I am leaning towards a 8" screen, however, I will go to a near by store and check out the Nexus 7 as the specs in it look great, pretty much top of the line for a smaller tab.

I also have the 1st gen Samsung NOTE (cell phone) and at first I used the stylus a lot but then not so much. One factor that I would like my (new) tablet to have is a pretty nice camera, I know they dont compare to a DSLR (which I have) but I figure since I'm forking out some $$$ I might as well try to get a nice camera in it.

Btw, I have the 1st gen Toshiba 10" tablet which is nice but it simply cannot compare to the graphics that I saw at BB on the Samsung's Tab and Samsung's Note.

I'd like an 8 inch tablet too. But the Nexus 7 has a much better screen resolution and it's processor has a much more powerful GPU.

Windows Surface RT.

Reasons: like an ipad 2 in many ways but with stuff like an USB port, flash support, useful keyboard options, MS office, can be expanded with microSD.

Other tablet I would consider would be a thinkpad tablet 2...kind of out of your price range, but with an intel atom processor is kind of the best of all worlds: you get the battery life + low heat of the RT and the backwards compatibility of x86.

If I actually wanted to get stuff done I would go with a Surface RT. But for more casual use i would go for a Nexus 7 or ipad mini.

Not a nexus 7; I've been thinking about the new LG 8 inch tablet but waiting to see price and battery life before going that route. The nexus 7 has two fatal flaws (from my perspective) no sd slot and not wonderful battery life; also I prefer 8 inch over 7 (yea yea the nexus 7 is cheap; but so are amazon's new tablets).

How about a Toshiba Excite 7.7?

Tegra 3, 7.7" AMOLED screen. Expandable.

I have a nexus 7. It's the first android tablet I've had that approaches an ipad in speed and overall smoothness. The screen is beautiful, battery life is good, and the price is hard to beat. My only issue with it is the lack of sd support.

The Excite 7.7 and the Surface RT would immediately be disqualified from my list of consideration since they are running Tegra 3 processors. That's a lot of performance you are giving up.

Thanks everyone, just to let you know I ended up getting the Samsung Tab 3 8". I had a $100.oo gift card for "Frys". I went there to look at the nexus 7 and the Sammy tab 3 8" but they didn't have the nexus 7 on display or in stock.

I have to say that this tablet is absolutely amazing and even though it's not as powerful as the nexus 7 I am loving this purchase.

If I were you and had enough cash I would certainly buy Nexus 7, but your purchase is not bad at all. Sure, Samsung Tab 3 8" yields in parameters in comparison with Nexus 7, but you have made a good purchase and glad to hear you are satisfied with it. My congrats!
