Well tbh it's his dads money and dads computer. The dad offerd to pay for my services

I'm calling shens, didn't the story you gave about this "friend" with "millions in the bank" involve his parents dying and him inheriting his money?

fuck someone help me find where he posts how his friend got all that money. I can't do it myself

EDIT: DING DING DING DING
Opiates was my DOC, and yes his parents died when he was a kid and left him a fortune. thats chump change for him

Wrong answer, you fix a friends computer for free once they'll think you're their personal repair person always on call.

Never mix a friendship with computer work.

Not usually, I'll do all my close friends for free, they understand its not a repair service, but that I'll help them out in awhile if they need it.

For a pc backup and reinstall XP on a laptop. Friend has a couple million I'm the bank if that means anything

Tell your friend that he would do better to leave it with a professional rather than a dope smoking biopolar depressed twat?

I think that is worth more than he could pay you for screwing it up and excusing yourself for not having the will to do it since you will be baked for as long as you have money.

If you have to charge him, then charge him what you would charge any other friend, don't base how much you charge him on how much he's got...

Holy WTF Batman, neckarb is right. Charge him what you would charge anyone else.

The cost of the upgrade along with all the work to get old programs and files along with older hardware to work right might be high.

But OTOH, the guy is a millionaire so he might as well just get a new laptop with real support.

Seriously if the guy is a millionaire I dont know why he hasn't just given the laptop to Heller for his trouble and said find me a good one, max budget 1300 bucks. Most people in that status would do the same thing.

It's heller, he's either high as a kite or depressed as shit, take a wild guess at what stage he invented this OP.

If the guy is a millionaire, why is he asking Heller for support? Shouldn't his lawyer, or accountant, or hanger-on be getting it fixed?

If you're a professional, perhaps...but Heller's just another semi-geek...a hobbyist at best...charging a friend for something this simple shows that they aren't friends at all.

I'd do it for lunch if they offered to pay you. Otherwise, free is a good price.

Well if he's really a friend then you don't charge him anything. Not unless it becomes a regular thing you need to do or something. That's what being a f.r.i.e.n.d means. If he's a coworker or just an acquaintance then sure charge him something, but you specifically said friend.

Favors and good will are more valuable than cash typically. I never asked to be paid for computer work for friends, though sometimes they would insist ($20-$40 or food/beer).

Did the work today, dad offered me $50 but i told him just to take me out to lunch. He then took me to lunch and slipped me a $20 for gas.
