Give the taxman their due, then give half of the rest away to friends and family. The balance could go to becoming debt-free, etc.,

The wife and I would both take 50k and do what we want with it... Then we would find another home out west in the mountains near a large lake to vacation at... Spend about 200k-250k on that then the rest we would sit back and retire on... Since our current home of paid for just sit back and enjoy life...

Oh and give about 10k to a few and I mean a few friends (screw our family they dont deserve it)...

Buy a house nobody could break into and have sex for two and half years straight.

Fix my house then sell it, or give it to the sister-in-law. Purchase 36 acres in northern Arizona and build the house of my dreams along with the biggest garage ever built. Of course the siblings would get $100k each. After that just wait for death.

Pay off mortgage,
Buy a 2 family home to rent out.
Should also replace our vehicles while we're at it since they are getting a bit long in the tooth.

Build a stern wheeler with a brewery on the main deck and a restaurant on the second. Then cruise the Mississippi.
Ya know, I was with Engineer on retiring. I could easily live the rest of my life on $1m, and that's not including what I already have, but... The other night I wanted to find out how much a viking longboat would cost. Hearing radio ads for Viking cruises on longboats got me interested until I saw what they call a longboat. It's just an ugly old ship you'd find anywhere. For about $600k I could get this...

I could provide real viking cruises, with the passengers pulling oars when needed. The people that would sign up would be far more interesting than the commercial deal, and I could go raid Europe :^D

"All them crazy elephant bones"

Besides buying that fancy Dijon ketchup I'd just invest it. I figure I need $60-70K a year after taxes to live comfortably here in the greater Seattle area including medical insurance, since retiring early means you pay for that yourself. Here $1 million is nowhere near enough to retire.

$1M? Dump them into index + bond funds, and business as usual.

Only change might be letting loose more smarta*s remarks at work,
and only responding to e-mails / IMs between 9-5.

Zero debt, no car or mortgage payments, so I'm comfy even now.

Pay off my parents house and make investments. I would like to make that million grow. I would hire a financial adviser.

1$ million extra would put me exactly at my FIRE point, so i would retire and get ready to travel across the US and canada for a few months this spring/summer.

Pay off the mortgage, spend about $150,000 on remodeling, buy a Tesla for me, Range Rover for the wife, put $50,000 away for kids’ college. This would leave me with about $350,000 left — $200,000 into retirement savings, then save the rest for H&B.

I would be tempted to retire, but would probably wait till my full pension is available in ~5 years.
