Your HD develops some bad sectors
Your wipe the drive which seems to clear the bad sectors

A. Continue to use the drive and hope it doesn't hose all your stuff
B. Accept a refurbished drive from the manufacturer and use that
C. Accept the refurb, sell it and buy a new drive

p.s the drive in question is a 6mth old gxp60

I would go with B if you can get the manufacturer to replace it and if you can do without the drive until then. But since the bad sectors apparently went away, they may not give you an RMA. If they do, I'd accept the refurb, there's really nothing wrong with them.

I too take B, I mean it would just the same with any other manufaccturer, some hard drive fails and some will go strong even after 3 years.

B for me

If it is still under warranty, get a replacement unit. If that turnes out to be bad or have errors, get a replacement for that one.

I would use B (and have used B in the past too). Any drive has a chance of failing but as long as they back it, you should be fine.

Update

I have ordered a new drive so...

The gxp has been formatted using the 'Erase Disk' on the ibm tools. It has been tested several times and show no bad clusters. Now I'm not sure if the clusters have been hidden or actually sorted out (i.e no physical damage)

What do I do with the drive now...

A. Send it to IBM, I have an RMA no. (but the drive appears to have no bad sectors) and sell the refurb.
B. Just sell the drive as it is (remember it has done half a dozen advanced tests with DFT and tested ok)

Thanks

I'd send it to IBM for replacement. Make a note of the serial number before you send it back so you can check if they send you the same drive back. If they do send you the same drive back then I'd sell it on.
