I'd reverse the drill and back it out slowly. I'd only go to the doctor if something didn't function correctly.

Since I usually wear some kind of work glove when I work, I probably wouldnt have to do anything.

But, I'd go to the ER, if I had insurance.

I've actually done that, but only through my finger and had a lucky glance off the bone.

Puncture wounds in the hand like that are no joke. You can have damage to the nerve, tendons, blood vessels, bone, ect. Assuming you didn't hit anything major, you'd need to worry about infection and physical therapy to deal with scar tissue.

I'd be most concerned over the metal shavings/fragments being stuck inside the wound.

Looks painful - hopefully no permanent damage.

On the job a guy was helping change out the screens on a rock crusher. many large bolts and nuts. he was using an electric impact gun, and managed to run a nut down on his finger BRRRT!
They took him in and the doc lubed it up and just yanked it off. I would have opted for wrenching it back off myself

Yeah, had a buddy of mine worked on a rock crusher in Alaska.

Some pretty large items involved there.

This. I'd probably pull it out myself, without twisting it, just straight pull, that way if there are any metal shavings I should hopefully pull those out at same time as they'll get pulled in by the thread. will hurt more as I might pull flesh with it too though. I'd maybe use a hard drive magnet to try to get any shavings that did stay inside, then run it under cold water to try to clean it up and slow down bleeding then dry and bandage it, and head to ER so they can check it better.

The thing with this type of injury is it usually does not hurt right away, it's the day after that it hurts badly. May as well treat it asap while it's not hurting as much. ER might also freeze it so they can go inside it with a scalpal or other tool to inspect it better, so there's that.

I refuse to use a power tool near something that someone else is holding and vise versa. if I am holding my own stock that I'm drilling or cutting into, if I slip up, I'll be able to react faster to get my hand out of the way than if someone else is doing it. I try to avoid situations like that though, sometimes you have awkward cuts to make, but I do my best to keep the procedure as safe as possible.

No, I would not reverse the drill. I might remove the bit, but I would either try to pull it straight out or unchuck it and work it out by hand.

Doesn't look fun, but at least the bit looks fairly clean. I had the bright idea once to separate some frozen hamburger patties with a steak knife, and yeah I ended up putting the knife through both the patties and my hand on the other side. Had no complications thankfully but do have a scar, as the knife did go through my hand.

I remember when I was 9 years old and stapled my finger at school. LOL

boy, did that hurt. I was kind of cool seeing half the staple in my finger. I could push it about 90 degrees and made my school mates cringe.

You NEVER wear gloves when working with rotating equipment. NEVER.

You would be surprised at what some shops will do in the name of upping production vs safety issues.

Well maybe not if you think about it.

Why they have a lot of production shipped overseas these days.

Some places workers are like Honey Badgers, if ya get my meaning.
