What would you do with ~$6k?

I'm looking to get about $6-7k in about a month from my job (retroactive pay) and just wondering what I should do with it.

Well what YOU would do if you have $6-7k coming?

Why not just put it in the bank? The economy being what it is it seems like extra money in the bank is a great thing to have these days.

He said 6 thousand, not 6 billion lol. We will be getting back $8,000 for the first time homebuyer credit sometime soon. I plan to pay off some on my wife's car and then refinance it to get a cheaper payment. We were stupid and bought it new, 3 years ago.. and even more stupid and financed it for too long. We have about 37 months left on it because we pay additional principal here and there.

And we are going to use some of it to make minor improvements on said house.

Basically, either save the money or use it as a tool to reduce some of your debt.. to allow saving of money.

Seriously, you cant get anything really useful for 6 grand these days. Junk mostly. Yes, you could outfit a nice home theater with that money, but really thats just a waste. If 6 grand is so much to you, then you dont need to be throwing it away on crap.
Put it away. Supposedly because many stocks are low right now, this is a good time to invest. When things turn around you will have massive gains. Bank 3 grand, and invest 3 grand. And know you could practice a little discipline when you had a windfall, instead of going nuts like a child with a c-note in a candy store.
