I live in a small town with no robberies that I'm aware of in the last eight years and I still lock my doors.

Wasn't there an episode of "homicide, life on the streets" like this? I think the homeowner ended up ending the drunk guy after he became abusive.

Same here. Some mailboxes have been baseball-batted, but no break-ins that I've heard of. Still, we lock our doors. It's just stupid not to.

honestly, seeing a body walking around in my apartment would be my first concern. not sure if I'd stop to think if this body were sober or intoxicated

Kill him so I can check another box to things I have always wanted to do.

Just kidding.

He would be going to the hospital for sure, I am not going to take chances with my wife and kid in the house.

somewhat similar situation happened to me. I parked at an old apartment (really a big old house made into 4 apartments) and as my wife and i were getting out of the car we spotted a cornered raccoon. so we just slammed the doors and ran up the stairs. never occured to me we left the doors unlocked, was an old 1993 Tercel with no key fob to lock the doors, and no automatic locks

After we go to bed, the guys in the apartment below us call me and say someone was in my car. Grabbed baseball bat, and looked over the deck. Sure enough, passed out frat boy in the passenger seat of my car with the door wide open. We call the cops, they rouse him up and he pukes MAINLY out the door. Cops ask if we have something to clean it up with, and we bring down some 409 and a roll of paper towels and they make him clean it up to our liking

Turns out he was the president of a frat that had been kicked off campus the year before and were renting a house next door to us. He got taken away in the paddy wagon, which was quite a site once the frat boys in the house next door say him sitting on the curb in cuffs.

Many people talk tough, but in reality I'd would say "Uhhh, dude JD doesn't live here he down a couple houses. You should really check things closer so you don't walk in somebody's house who might not be as understanding as me.

then i would proceed to seppuku him

Happened to me in a college dorm. The drunk realized his mistake when he recognized me, and stumbled back out. It made for a good laugh the next day in our case, but in an adult+house scenario I would answer any stranger with a crowbar to the knees.

I probably would have already dialed 911 before going in to confront him and if the guy was driving I'd have his ass hauled away.

Well this didn't exactly happen, but a 'to be drunk' person once walked into our house at 8pm. Some idiot in the house (not me) left the door wide open while he went out for a long time. Lo and behold, someone looking for a party walked in...

Lock your door.

You showed him! Why didnt you just wake him up yourself and tell him to get the hell out of your car? The police didnt need to be involved at all. Hes drunk and sleeping. Hes obviously harmless

I swear people have no balls anymore. Its not that hard to talk to someone.

I'd explain his mistake to him. He'd leave after that and no one would die just because I could legally kill someone.

I haven't locked my doors at night... ever. Apparently, I live in a friendlier, safer region of the country.

Where do you live? I wanna send some thugs over to rob your house at night.
They'd have to make it past the 3 dogs first. One of the dogs has historically been bred to protect livestock from wolves and bears. Assuming you got past the 3 dogs, you'd have to get past Mr. Remington. Assuming you succeeded in getting into and out of my house without me hearing, you'd have to get past my neighbor too. Last year, a fox grabbed one of my rabbits in the yard. The fox made it about 20 feet to where it was killed in its tracks. Think you're sneakier than a fox?

I feel pretty safe with my door unlocked. If someone's going to break in, I don't want the added task of fixing my door in addition to cleaning up their blood.

One good thing about living in the country in the southern u.s. is that there are so many people with small arsenals that it is assumed that everybody has guns. Nobody makes this mistake - drunk or not.

I currently don't have any but don't tell anyone. I haven't locked my doors for years.

My brother-in-law's brother went to a party and passed out in his friend's apartment that was a few doors down from the party. Only problem was he missed his friend's apartment by one door. He woke up on the living room floor with a bunch of guys staring down at him. They told him to get the f**k out and run. He did, and had to walk three miles home. When he got home, he noticed they had drawn penises and "I'M A i love you" all over his face, they took the sim card and battery out of his phone, and took everything out of his wallet.

That said, I lock my doors. BUT if anyone actually did manage to stumble into my house late at night, they would be staring down the business end of a shotgun waiting for the cops to arrive.
