Just received an email from the guy after I thought this had been settled... He says he found another elliptical that he can buy new for $799, so he would like to return this one. That is, return the broken machine to me for a full refund. This one actually surprised me a bit - he seemed somewhat level-headed/realistic before...

Just ignore him. Or if he has your address maybe repeat that it is nonrefundable and whatnot so you can gauge his next step

Tell him he can want in one hand and shit in the other, and see which one fills up first.

It worked when you sold it to him, it worked for a month for him, as much as it sucks for him, you have no obligation to help him fix it.

The only real option has already been exhasted, contacting the original owner about warranty service.

He rolled the dice and lost, happens :\

Update would be cool.

Also, this is why we use a secondary email address, and only agree to meet buyers at a generic location, not at your house.

You don't want some crazed CL'er to come looking for his "refund" with a bat or something.

Nicely tell him 'tough luck'. That's the risk you take when getting a deal on CL.

he took a risk buying a used product. im sure he was happy getting a good deal, but the thing with risk is that it is not always reward... tough cookies

LOL, what an idiot. I mean, it sucks to pay good money for something and then have it break, but still.

The only times a refund is justified is when the item is DOA. Happened to my brother twice - once with a car (block was cracked, overheated and died as he was driving it away) and once with a motherboard (long story, but he got an RMA for a motherboard that died and was unable to test it; he finally sold it and the replacement was also DOA).

No you should not do anything. Hell, after you sold it, you should have ceased communication with the buyer.

It's Craigslist!! You buy sh!t knowing that there is a chance it might break soon!

consult the rules of acquisition.

first rule:

"once you have their money, you never give it back."

19th rule

"satisfaction is not guaranteed."

Craigslist is like a garage sale, how many people having garage sales offer to take items back?
