You have to be pretty bright to be President. Even with a corrupt Chicago machine pushing.

You should have to be pretty bright to be President. Even with a ride on a family name and religious nutjobs/bigots pushing.

Again, it's amazing what the question of intellect brings out in Bush voters. The latent shame somehow compels them to project the deficiency onto those they disapprove of, even when it's an apples to asteroids comparison like that of comparing Bush's intellect to Obama's.

I took your civil literacy test, and I scored 87.9%. This must mean I'm a genius.
And I have only attended public schools and colleges. Of course, I voted for Hillary.

I wonder what the average score on this test is for GWB voters?

100% no lie. I am rather shocked by any score under 70% given the difficulty of that particular test. Voted Obama.

Does anyone know where I can find a reliable IQ test on the online?

I usually spend the majority of my day filled to capacity with unwarranted self-importance, and it would be really great if I could back up my sense of intellectual superiority with hard numbers.

On the topic of Mrs. Palin and the question in the OP: I really don't think she's as dim-witted as she comes off on her best days. I've always believed her to be average with regard to intelligence (aren't most politicians?), but very intellectually incurious--the latter being the most damning quality I ever personally find in people.

It ain't what your 'IQ' is [generally] that matters... It is how savvy you are in what you pursue. In Sarah's case it seems she was a Governor and she made it to the finals of the finals... That might indicate a rather high political 'IQ'. She'd probably be a pretty good Fox-ite.
So end of the day, she is about a 160 'IQ' in the stuff that matters to her objectives... That she may not know Plate Tectonics is of no import. She can hire a staffer to look it up!

Go to that Mensa place.. I hear they have pretty good ones... and even let you join if you're able to score high enough.

Palin is like my Grandma, who was one canny old freakin' beotch but surrounded herself with dumb people who she could manipulate. She didn't know shit, aside from getting her way throughout life by marking marks and playing them for all they were worth.

Palin is... interesting. She has brains, but she uses them only to further herself, which demonstrates brightness, but not curiosity. I don't think she values knowledge for its own sake - only as something she can wield as necessary.

Of course, knowledge and intelligence aren't the same thing.

I'd actually be more generous... 130 to 140. You don't get as far as Governor while being intellectually average. There's a certain amount of intelligence involved in that process, but I don't think she'd ever make POTUS on her own, let alone win a GOP Primary, because she's way too colloquial, and that limits her potential.

Laugh all you want, but Z is one of the most well read, well traveled, most reasoned and measured posters you'll find in this sewer.

It's not so much her low IQ as her appalling lack of knowledge and perspective. As frightening as her ignorance is, unfortunately, it is only typical of most Americans today. Didn't she have to switch colleges five times to get a degree? It would be great to look at some of her course work.

Anyone who actually thinks that Jesus horses belongs in reality isn't just a victim of indoctrination and poor education, they have to be stupid too.

They just HAVE to be stupid.

I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt when I blame her education. At best, she has a poor education. At worst, she has a poor education and is stupid.

I am going with at or slightly above average. Brian Dunning, who runs a critical thinking podcast called Skeptoid, made many good points when he discussed the topic of Sarah Palin's intelligence. He is certainly not a Palin fan, but I think he gives a mostly unbiased commentary on the matter.

Skeptoid transcript:
Sarah Palin Is Not Stupid
Is an ad hominem attack really the best way to express disagreement?

IQ has little to do with achievement; one of the guys that almost always beat me out was, last time I heard from him, working as a garbageman up north (I forget which state or city) and perfectly happy as long as he could afford weed and movies and could think about whatever he wished while working.
Your reasoning is utterly fallacious. You draw a broad conclusion based on (extremely limited) anecdotal evidence.

In fact, various studies have concluded that IQ correlates moderately with achievement. For example, it's estimated that between a sixth and a quarter of the variance in income is attributable to IQ. Wikipedia provides a few citations:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IQ#Positive_correlations_with_IQ

IQ isn't the be-all and end-all of success in life, but it's certainly better to have a higher IQ than a lower one. Ask yourself the question: If you could have an IQ 20 points higher, would you decline?

Why because he was a nuclear engineer? Not even close... Bill Clinton had 180s like Reggie Jackson, a frekken baseball player, super genius.

I'd peg Carter about 130-140.

Obama 150+

Reagan 130's

Bush 135

Bush 2.0 115

IMO
Actually, Clinton's IQ is estimated as being in the low 140s. That's reinforced by the fact the Hillary's IQ is widely reported as being 140 (and that of all traits, the closest correlation for married couples is IQ).

IQ is best estimated by achievement at an early age. Bill Clinton was apparently precocious, but not extraordinarily so.

I'd like to see the quality of those studies....because frankly I think it's utterly meaningless.

The problem with Sarah Palin is somewhat typical of many, she is ignorant and proud of her own ignorance.

Its not that she is stupid or incapable of learning, its a matter of refusing to expand her limited horizons. I found it somewhat understandable, that Sarah, when suddenly thrust into the national limelight by being picked by McCain, would be somewhat be behind the curve in national political issues, but I am now amazed at Sarah Palin's refusal to self educate her self and learn.

And when we can say mental retardation is forever but ignorance is only temporary,

The problem with estimating Palin's IQ as any higher than average is that you're not factoring in many things.

1. She barely succeeded in getting a low-end degree from a community college. As others have said, educational success is highly correlated with IQ.

2. Her chosen "major" (communications) is a field in which she utterly fails. Professional success is also highly correlated with IQ.

3. Her grasp of abstract topics is extremely poor, as seen in many interviews, she can only parrot party lines. Her analytical abilities are extremely poor, as well as her ability to "think on her feet".

Overall, she seems to lack any basic ability to understand complex topics and communicate those topics in a meaningful manner.

Now, many may say that her advisers didn't prep her, but the problem with that logic is that advisers wouldn't send her out without prep, thus, she failed to absorb it.

Additional evidence of her going-away speech in AK and the markup on that speech, shows that she can't even form coherent sentences.

Overall, I'd put her below average. She has charisma, looks, and an agenda that appeals to the "average". This is the only reason why she has experienced a modicum of success in the political field.

I can usually tell when people are dumb. RR was not dumb despite lefts portrayal fearing his power and popularity they tried to use this low IQ canard but in Sara's case I think it's no joke. If you can believe it, or not, I don't care, I have something in the 160s and can always tell someone equal or better I simply dismiss them as smart but someone less it's easy...

110

110 is above average since the average IQ is set at 100.

How could Palin be anything but average or below average?

She can't even name a founding father other than Washington.

She's a fucking moron.

She's politics' version of Britney Spears. Just as Britney can't sing but is pretty and can gyrate on stage to heavily synthed and synced vocals, Palin can't do anything but regurgitate the same trash without thinking and look pretty.

I do love how the McCain Monster has come back to bite them though. Most think he's scared shitless about her now. The morons have attached to her and now McCain can't debate her on facts, because she knows none, and it's all his fault.

I love it.

Very well put, LK, I don't think it can be broken done much better than that. Conservative voters, and I've been vocal about this for sometime, need to speak with ballots on why this isn't acceptable. Shackling their political destiny to the Palin and Bush Jr. types is the surest way to gt laughed out of power, to say nothing of the horrendous decisions these kind of puppets are directed to make in office. Fundie religious nuts and tapioca-for-brains politicians (or a combination of the two) have no business leading this country. Americans should have enough respect for the office of the President to demand that our best and brightest occupy it, not mentally deficient puppets who acquiesce decision making to others.

What a worthless thread.

Bush the idiot had an SAT score of 1206

Clinton the genius had an SAT score of 1032

Obviously this proves that Bush was actually smarter than Clinton, right?
