What would you guys do for LA to NYC air travel?

I'm debating between these two choices:

A. Red eye 9 PM flight and arrive around 5:30 AM on a Friday in NYC

or

B. Leave around 10 AM on Friday and arrive around 7-8 PM on a Friday in NYC

Hotel check-in isn't until 3 PM so i'm a bit concerned about lugging my baggage around if I go with option A. On the flip side, I'd get to enjoy more of NYC if I do go with option A with consideration that I'm going to be there for only the weekend (leaving Monday).

It was kinda sucky - I dragged myself to my hotel, and begged to check in early. After snoozing on their couch for two hours, a very kind porter managed to twist a managers arm to get us a room.

But I didn't want to lose an entire day, since we had a limited number of days in NYC. If you can build in that extra day into your itinerary, I'd get the second flight.

I'd still choose B because I hate red eyes and can't sleep on them. But if you could get some sleep OP, take the red eye, drop off your bags and check out NYC.

This point too, nearly forgot about this option. We also checked our bags with the hotel and came back for them in the afternoon before we left for our 8something pm flights back to CA. Gotta love that you get three hours back and wind up landing at a close to normal hour. I even went back to work the next day.

late june i used Air Tran to fly from baltimore to LAX and it was $169 1 way, which was extremely cheap at the time.

it was perfect though cause we were leaving from san diego so we didnt want round trip. direct flight too.

i'd assume JFK is pretty big and it may be around that price too. i booked directly on their site.

keep in mind that its $15 baggage fee though.
