CASPER, Wyo. - Two college students returned a lost purse to its owner, not knowing the handbag contained her life savings of $43,000.
Derek Hepner and Adam Simanton spotted the purse lying in the gutter of a Casper street Monday as they drove past it. Stopping to examine the bag, they pulled out a wallet and an Arizona driver's license and immediately took the purse to police.
What they didn't see was an envelope containing $43,000 in cash that was the owner's life savings, police Sgt. Larry Baker said.
The owner had been traveling through Casper and apparently misplaced her purse during a stop, police said.
The woman phoned Hepner on Thursday to inform him of a $200 reward for the two Casper College students. Hepner is studying criminal justice, and Simanton plans to be a lawyer.
"I can't believe we had that much money in our possession and didn't even know it," Simanton said.

So what would you have done in that situation? It does say that kids that found it, didn't know there was $43K in there, but what if you had found the cash in there? You think the kids are like banging their heads for not keeping it? I know, morals and all that...but how would I misplace my purse containing $43k during a stop?

Yea..I'm bored tonight.

I'd have returned it. If, for some reason, I misplaced that much money, I'd want it returned to me.

Because of what happened to me durring a previous incident, I would have been 43k richer.

I would have turned it in.

I've found a few things with loads of cash before (nothing like 43K) and still turned them in.

If I work my ass off in life for my money, I'd want all of it returned to me. I'd reward anyone who returns the complete lost sum. If I found a large sum of money that was attached to an identifier of any kind, I'd try my best to return it. How can I possibly expect someone else to return my lost fortune if I wouldn't do the same for someone else's money?

I would have been $43,000 richer.

But why in the hell did that lady have $43,000 cash on her though?

The woman phoned Hepner on Thursday to inform him of a $200 reward for the two Casper College students.

I would of asked for more.

Good thing they did the right thing and returned it. I would have returned the purse myself as well, even knowing the money was in there. If I had returned the purse without the 43k, I would have made myself into a prime suspect. 43,000 dollars is a lot of money and the authorities would be watching me like a hawk. I'd have no opportunities to do anything with it.

$43k, I'd definitely return it. With me, I'd be more tempted to keep something like $100-200 (which I would still return) than I would $43,000. That's just too huge an amount of money to keep.

It wouldn't be worth it to NOT return it. Besides that, I'd want someone else to return it if it was mine...

I would return it, because I'd want it returned to me.

It's one thing if there wasn't any way to identify the owner, but having a big-screen TV and knowing that everytime I watched it I was doing it at the expense of Mrs. John Doe who accidentally lost the money would haunt me.

43,000 is too much to keep as someone posted before me. I mean if you found a buck on the floor, it's not going to screw anyone over if they lost that but 43k? I mean you could've ruined (or assisted in ruining) someone's life if they lost all that.
