I owned as a teen 4 Toyota Celica Supras. 2 1979's, 1 1978, and a 1984. What alot of fun thoes cars were and could beat the daylights out of them all day look and they just kept comming back for more. The straight 6 engine they had was IMO the best next to the slant 6 from Chrysler.

I did indeed mean the 240SX.

My point is basically all the japanese brands make anymore is soccer mom vehicles.

At least, at a reasonable price the average younger person could afford.

Unless I'm mistaken all of those cars when new could be had in the mid teens, now there is either no equivalent to them or the price is much higher.

We have the Scion TC and the Hyundai Tiburon.

Other than that, Asia has forsaken us.

The 1993+ MX-6 was only 14 grand if you got it stripped with the 4 banger. And it was utterly useless with that engine.

Definitely agree with you there.

Why did Toyota discontinue the line? It's not like they have a replacement or anything (closest they've got is the Solara.... *barf*)

The Scion TC has more or less replaced it. Although, I hear rumors that Toyota is going to release a ~260HP TC here in the states that will become the 8th Gen Celica in Japan. Aside from that, the Celica does not look to be returning any time soon.

Yeah, where can I get one of those houses? They're up to $200,000+ where I live now.

$350,000+ here.

Edit:
as far as the Corvette, go out in the back and as for Jose, Vinnie, or Tyrone. They'll hook you up if you pay cash.

No one remembers the MR2? 200-2005 convertible, Hardtop option(expensive, $2.5-3k shipepd from japan Toyota hardtop). Mid Engine RWD, 2150lbs? Of course it was 25k but you can get a 2002 Sequential Manual for $14k.

The old celica was far from sporty, highest trim was 140hp - unless you are talking 5th gen with the turbo.

But yeah like the others said - inflation.

In 2000, the celica had a GT-S package with a 180hp engine, it is not a turbo either.

The point ladies and gentleman is that japan has nothing to complete price wise with:

Focus ZX3
Cobalt
Sunfire
2 door ion
neon

and if one of you says thats because japan quality warrants a $5000 or more premium....ill hang myself

This is why my next car will be an MX-5

3200lbs is too heavy for me. I may as well go onto vehix.com and say "show me all cars in the world, except the ones weighing over 3200lbs."

My dad's mini-van is less than 3200lbs...

Power is not a requirement for a "sporty" or even "sports" car, though they're often built that way.

My '89 Celica in college refused to die. I had that thing duct taped together in the end and it was leaking every fluid it had, the exaust was shot, the tires were falling apart, and it must have been in a dozen accidents, etc...

It held on until right before I graduated. Such a trooper!

Inflation?

The last gen 300zx was never ever even close to $14k...I think the number should be $20k now, and for that, you can get the Civic Si--as sporty as anything from Japan at that price point in a long time.

Because nobody wants a high-revving light car

The Scion Tc is the replacement--fat and torquey

The extra couple-hundred pounds on the Celica gave you two back seats and a trunk big enough to carry more than a purse...

I had exactly the same experience with an '89 Celica. Then I upgraded.

Still...what a car. Sold it at 240k. The power steering was 100% gone, both the driver's side and trunk locks were thrashed (someone broke in), there was a huge crack in the windshield, it was rusted through in multiple places (I used a hot glue gun to partially seal the sunroof, and I would use trash bags to cover my seat and collect the rain every night), but that thing still ran...

Any car that can live for two decades in a state that salts its roads is
