What's a good combat jet flight sim to get??

I'm got a new joystick and I want a nice sim to use with it. I was thinking something along the lines of Flanker 2.0 or something like that. What's good?

Something from the Jane's series - F-15, F/A-18, USAF.

IL-2 if you want to slow down to props.

All jam-packed with realism, no arcade stuff.

Well, I just scored Janes F/A-18 for $5.44 shipped on eBay. I'm tempted to pick up Falcon 4.0 for $17.00 shipped.

I think I read a review about StrikeFighter: Project 1 in Computer Games Magazine or something like that. They r@ped the game and said it was awful...but then I heard something about there being too version, one of them being a beta version that somehow made its way to WalMart stores.

I don't consider FS to be a dominant "source" on Flight sims. They're OK for general game reviews, but they are lacking when it comes to flight sims. I checked out SimHQ.com and CombatSim.com and decided to buy Falcon 4.0 as well.

So I've got both Janes F/A-18E and Falcon 4.0 coming. I've download the SP3 patch (80MB)/manual (180 pages) for F4 and am going over it now. This mofo is complex as hell. It should take me a year just to learn how to take off Considering that the F-16 is my favorite plane in the whole world (ever since first seeing the movie Iron Eagle back in the 80's), I'm going to start this sim from scratch and learn all the basics and work my way up.

Yeah Falcon 4.0 was a good call. Flanker was ok, I just didn't dig it for some reason.

I (along with lots of others) are waiting on LOMAC. Hopefully UBI soft won't mess it up.

If you don't mind...poopy graphics, pick up F15 and USAF fighters (from EA, same as F18). May even try the Israeli Air Force game (Israeli Defense Force if I remember right). Again from Janes/EA.

Longbow if you want the helicopter stuff (maybe even Havok/Hokum).

Well, F/A-18 just came in today. All I had to do was set it to Win98 compatibility mode in XP and it works fine. I've been racking up the hours in F4 as well

Is there any online co-op gameplay on Falcon 4.0?

Although its less of a sim and more of an action game, Comanche 4 is still a fun game (its even better with a joystick).

for helicopter game stay away from Gunship, if your a gunner you can't fly the helo and if your a pilot you can't use the gun. What a joke.

I just wish that Jane would do another Longbow that game ruled when it came to helo sims.
