For changing tires, cordless or corded doesn't matter.
Which is better though?

I've heard good stuff about dewalt and milwaukee.

I know Makita makes excellent impact screwdrivers. I don't know if they make an impact wrench though. I've trusted Makita for many years, they are full of great products.

The mechanic across the street has an 18v SnapOn and loves it - said his dad used the 14.4v SnapOn impact for their race car. They're a little pricey, though.

Really for a tool that only has one purpose and won't be used much it makes pretty good sense to go with something from harbor freight. If this is something you will use often either on a job or at home, then it makes sense to pay the extra money for quality the first time. That being said, the only electric impact gun I have ever used was at my old job at a salvage yard. It was a 12v Snap-On, and handled every reasonable task I threw at it. Being Snap-On it was horribly overpriced, but I saw it take a substantial amount of abuse and still function properly, I worked there 2 years and it was used extensively every day and was always reliable.

I just bought mine over xmas.

Avg tire is about 80 - 90 ft/lb

The Dewalk DWK059K - 18V has 300ft/lb torque.
I got a Dewalt 14v 1/2" driver - DWK055. Since I already have a Dewalk 14v drill, they share same battery, I just bought the bare impact driver instead of the kit.

129 ft/lb torque.

Impact sockets from Sears ran about 40 bucks.. over x-mas had discount.

you can always buy refurb kit with 2 battery and charger

Any major cons to a cordless set?

Electric? there are none, dont waste your money. get a cheap compressor and then buy a air impact wrench, will last much longer.

For light work, electric is fine.. i dont have a place for a compressor.. that the only reason i got that... my new home will have a compressor (this summer)

Plus i'll keep my electric in the car in case i get a flat.. it'll be easier on the road..

Cons electric is not as strong and the battery like all battery will stop charging after a while..

I have a black and decker bulldog electic impact that is probably 20yrs old an still works fine. They are not something you are going to use every week so last quite a long time. Air compressor with impacts are nice but some people do not have the storage area for them, so electric are benefical.
