Whats a good max temp for GTX 460 1GB OC?

Hello, Sorry if this is a noob-type question...

Recently upgraded to an EVGA GTX 460 1GB w/reference cooler (763/3800 Factory OC)

Just wondering whats the right temperature not to reach when over clocking this card?

Basically i usually put the fan to the max acceptable speed that i can live with noise wise (60% in this case) and oc until i reach that temp limit.

in the summer mine hit 70-74, in the winter it hits 65. thats after a 15 min OCCT run. It's overclocked to 900mhz core on 1.05v

You have the nice MSI cooler on that thing, thats great, but thats also the reason for the lower than usual max temp i think,

my vcore is set to 0.987 i have no way of changing it using the programs that i have, whats a good piece of software to change it?

Basically from what i have read, as long as the max load temp is less than 80C its all good, can anyone confirm/deny this please ?

MSI afterburner, and 80c sounds about right.

Mine hits about 60 at real-world loads, but I have the Cyclone cooler as well. It's a nice card.

These chips are meant to go up to 90c and beyond. The base it should be at on normal avg usage shouldnt go higher then 85c Anything below that is a good temp.

Anything below 80C you're good, just not too good. That means there is something wrong with the heatsink or your case airflow.

i would say its a subjective conclusion you make there, what if my fan setting is low ?

i basically set the fan to the max that i can tolerate, then crank the card to the max temp that is acceptable, the end result is a 865 core clock that hovers about 77C @ 65% fan speed in EVGA OC software, and about 65C while running crysis,,

so i would say you cant generalize it as a good or a bad temperature, its all about that fan speed

EX: say another person is getting the same core clock @ 100 % fan speed , then that in comparison to my OC is not good, so it depends on a few circumstances

Well, my conclusion was made on the fact that you have it set to auto, which doesn't seem to be the case.
