Get a 07 Ego
Just the marker for 200? or including air + hopper?
If its just the marker for 200 I would recommend looking for a used mechanical autococker. I picked up an 05 prostock used for 125 awhile ago and the condition was great. Take a look at your local craigslist.
But just a warning, autocockers are a bit more complex then other markers so you if purchase one you might not want to take it apart immediately.

You might be able to get an ion for around that price. If you know someone that's sponsered by smart parts you might be able to get a discount. If you look on the pbnation forums they have a pretty big for sale/trade section. There's definately good deals to be found in there if you're interested in a used marker.

I would get the Ion over the spider.

I had an indian creek BKO like this one a few years back when I used to play, great gun, I would buy one again.

Of course, then comes the price though. The Spyder TL-X seems like a reliable gun.

hows that?

I would stay away from anything Spider, but for goofing around on the weekend, playing once or twice a month, I suppose thats alright.

I had 3 different spiders over the years and they all had issues that would leave me stranded and frustrated on the field.

Wow, I have had great experinces with Spyder. Granted, they don't last forever but for a good 2 years of once a month it's a good gun. If you are going to mainly play woods ball and want something truly bulletproof though Tippman is a great choice.

My first gun was a Spyder Xtra - I still have it as a backup since there is absolutely NO resale value but it is 100% reliable. I play mostly woods/recball and use an upgraded Tippmann A5 as my primary marker and it never skips a beat.

That said, if you are going to be playing on small fields which most likely means speedball esque, I'd go with this a-la-carte package:

Start with the JT Proteum Semi-Auto Blowback Marker w/ electro trigger + Free 12v Revo (xboard) loader and case for $109:

*JT Proteum Review

Add this tank: (WGP 50ci/3000 psi) for $62

and this mask (V-Force Armor Thermal Goggles) ($18)

and a barrel condom of course:

http://www.actionvillage.com/is-bin/INT...y4=?ProductID=tf7AqArbvOwAAAERS248qWuZ

... and you've got a killer starter package (nice blowback marker w/ electro grip, 12v loader, HPA tank, thermal mask, etc) for your $200 that blows any of the retail starter kits out of the water. The stock barrel is actually pretty nice but it also uses standard Spyder barrel threads. If you were to pick up an inexpensive Spyder Victor as a backup, ALL your main accessories (barrel, loader, air system, etc..) could be switched to your mech backup in case of a breakdown in your primary marker.

Here's a link to a cheap Spyder Victor marker, same as the Xtra with a shorter stock barrel and without the expansion chamber (for CO2 users):

Spyder Victor Marker ($47)

Impulse. I think they are around 350, but its worth the extra green. good and reliable gun imo.

The impulse is $239 on sale for just the marker... but he's still going to need the air system, mask, a loader, etc... which will put it over $400 to get started. It's not worth the extra green for a starting player, once he gets established he can always look to invest in a higher end marker after developing his skills and style of play.

If you include the value of the 12v revo loader ($50) and case ($20) he's only investing $40 in the JT marker via the package I recommended. The impulse is a nice marker but it's overkill and almost doubles his budget...

can u recommend a barrel and paintballs that work best with it?
Also, how much does it cost to refill the n2 compared to co2

If you're asking about the JT marker, I'd suggest you stick with the "stock" barrel for now since it's equivalent to the JT after market barrel which is actually pretty good. If you really want to upgrade barrels, I like the J&J Ceramic or Smart Parts progressive in 12 or 14 inch personally.

As for paintballs, I tend to go with whatever the field sells if the markup isn't terrible and I don't mind supporting the local outfits. If I'm playing Outlaw or woods, I'll usually go with PMI Premium or Stingers. I figure $35 - $45 a case is about right, it's important to make sure if you are buying online that they have a good return policy (they pay freight) if you end up with any broken balls or other issues.

http://www.actionvillage.com/is-bin/INT...azorNWKfykM2k=?ProductSKU=002-143-0144 = $35 a case (2000) Diablo Blaze

http://www.actionvillage.com/is-bin/INT...2k=?ProductID=JiusFAY7Wb4AAAD7t_ZdtjWl
= $35 a case (2000) for PMI Stingers

Final question - cost to refill CO2 versus N2 (more commonly compressed air or HPA - they are used interchangeably in the same tanks) will vary based on the field. I have found that most fields around here charge a flat price for all day air or CO2 so there's no advantage to either pricewise, some places charge per ounce of CO2 or 1000 lbs of HPA. You will get more shots, per cubic inch, out of a CO2 tank versus an N2/HPA tank - however the liquid to gas conversion of CO2 which provides a quantity advantage comes with some significant disadvantages in terms of performance consistency.

I'm hearing mixed things on the forums about JTs rep. That's the only thing that is keeping me from pressing the checkout button. My final question I guess is the reliability of the marker. I was originally gonna go with a spyder due to their rep.
