What's a good RTS game nowadays?

I've tried the newer RTS games, but my vote still goes to Warcraft 3.

hands down the best RTS of all time. of all time! only noobs who can't handle the intense micro say it isn't. The only RTS games that come close to it's depth would be starcraft and age of empires


it will probably only be succeeded by starcraft II

RTS is the only thing i play nowadays. lately i've played dawn of war, supreme commander and company of heroes, guess what i always end up playing again after a few weeks?

Hes got a point, starcraft is the best game ever made imo, but theres much more to it than micro/balance/gameplay.

DOW 1(+xpacs) and DOW2, as already mentioned. DOW1 is more traditional, while DOW2 is more like RTT - small army focused (a few squads; no base building). you still obviously need the strategy though.

Sins of a Solar Empire is intriguing and I'm thinking of getting it for Christmas.


Dune and Dune 2000 are basic but still fun.


Although, don't you get sick of:

Announcer: "Building"
...
10 seconds
...
Announcer: "Construction Complete"

and the sounds of the peons and other pawns are annoying too...

Microing peons on crystals is boring. Microing units in an actual fight is fun. It's disappointing to see that SC2 is continuing with this 20 year old RTS formula.

I miss age of empires, i have yet to find another RTS that gives me the best replay value. I don't know maybe the the ability to build towns just adds a great element to the game. Also i like the resource gathering in the AoE series, not too complicated but hard to master.

But back on topic, i did like the single player games of CoH and DoW2.

Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance.

This man knows right.

Sins of a solar empire taking a close second, with demigod a competitive third. IMO.

yes, because starcraft is so boring that no one plays it anymore, while other RTSs have entire countries as their fanbases. right....:hmm:

uhh.. are you suggesting that you don't micro units in war3?

I'm saying developers like Relic and Massive have done a much better job at innovating and advancing the genre.
