Whats a good time in SETI?

Racing friends, MTRs, sitting in the hot tub drinking some bubbly and discussing quantum physics with the hot tub babes, now THAT's what I call a good time.

See the add-ons page on the S@H website. Depending on the client & OS you use, there's plenty of programs that'll keep track of you past WU info.

To really bring down your times, you will want to be running the CLI (text based client), rather than the slow, but pretty, GUI (screensaver client)

Follow the link to Team Anandtech SETI in our Signatures, for information on how to set up the CLI client, and you'll hopefully be on the way to getting quicker Work Unit (WU) times

Also, Seti just LOVES high FSB speeds, and fast RAM, so bear that in mind when overclocking

lol Ray ,don't forget chasing Poof through the bushes

You could knock about 25% off that time using the CLI ,btw what was your old PC!?:Q

My Ath XP @1.6GHz ,152MHz FSB,DDR RAM does WU's in 3.3hrs

Oh, yeah, chasing Poof through the bushes is a great time, and so is *whacking* people with my cane.

another good time is getting sub 7 hour WU times on my rig.

And everyone else has pretty much covered your "original" question.

65hrs? What did you have a 486? Anyway like others have said, make sure that you are using the cli. Also Seti loves a high FSB. When overclocking bear in mind that raw mhz looks good on paper and braggin rights, but it's the FSB that makes your system fly! I will give you an example. My system is an AthlonXP 2000 running 10x175 so 1.75Ghz. My work system is an Intel 1.8 stock. Well my system does a 3:15 WU, work does a 4:30 WU. The work computer has a 50mhz advantage but my home system has a huge FSB advantage making a WU finish over an hour faster. So if you want the best time from seti, lower the multiplier and raise that FSB!

LOL well good advice but you cant really change the multiplyer on a P4, well not unless you got some mad amout of equipment. Only way to oc a new Intel is to jack the fsb, I had it at 148fsb which is faily decent for a RDRAM system. By the way my old system was a 600MHz intel with 128 PC100 ram and a Radeon 7000 PCI video card, was running it with visual while surfing web.

Sounds like I just need to get the other version.

Even for a PIII 600 running GUI SETI that WU time was far too high ,I'd guess you had the graphics showing ,this alone doubles WU times!:Q.
A PIII 600 running the CLi version would complete WU's in about 10hrs ,maybe just under.
My sons Cel 366@550 does WU's in about 10.5hrs

Re P4 vs Athlon ,not to mention that the XP is a more efficient processor & does more work for a given amount of MHz ,but your right ,FSB rules!
