what's a good windows remote desktop program?

I need a program to let me use the keyboard, mouse, and video of a win2k computer over a lan connection. (sorta like a software KVMoIP)

it has to be secure, and preferably pretty close to realtime. (I've used windows terminal services and it's really slow and choppy)

agreed...i dont think theres anything more secure either...
never had any slowness or choppiness unless i started transfering multiple large files while connected on the remote machine over a local 10/100mb connection...if ur doing it over the net well...what do u expect?

I like RealVNC too. Just install the server on the computer you want to connect to and run the viewer on whatever computer you want to use to connect to it. I've found it's useful to use at school to connect to your computer at home (like when you forget to print out your research paper and need to email it to yourself from your home box lol). I uploaded the viewer to my website, so now I can just type in the URL and run it in RAM wherever I'm at. If you're accessing it from outside your home LAN, be sure to do port forwarding on your router for it so you can get to it.

It's also useful if you build a box to use as a file or web server but don't want to fork over the cash to get a monitor for it.

Remote Desktop/Terminal Services uses 128-bit encryption so it's as good as you're going to get for now. And I agree, it's the fastest available.

However, I don't believe RealVNC has any encryption on the data in and out, only the password.

WinXP's remote desktop is actually secure? Hrmm... may have to look into using this then. I use tightvnc over an ssh tunnel. The problem is the ssh server for windows I'm using hasn't been updated in a while I don't think

We use NetOP at UPS and I must say that it is pretty damn good.

It has very little impact on CPU usage. I cannot say the same thing for RealVNC.

I have been using XPs Remote Desktop at home and I really like the fact that it even brings the sounds of the remote PC to your location. I also like that it carries your scroll mouse functionality over. NetOP does neither of these two things.

NetOP is a bit easier to set up and has a lot of advanced security features though.
