Driving that V8 E-class was a sweet experience I must say I haven't experienced a car like that so far...not that I have driven that many really nice cars since those days (currently mostly driving 4-bangers)...but I would borrow a mid 90's E-class to drive around anytime

Thats a nice ride too, back in the day my uncle used to have one of those except diesel in Poland. I remember going to Germany in it and still putting out easy 220 km on the autobahn without a hiccup. Amazing cars.

Heh...funny thing is that my dad bought the 400E from my uncle right after he test drove it....my uncle's wife hated the manual and my mom, me and dad love to drive manual (because we all know how to drive stick) so my dad gave him a fair price and then my uncle bought an auto E-class just like it.

The 500E will always be a dream car of mine.

The cars were shipped back and forth between Mercedes and Porsche factories for assembly. Awesome ride, body still looks good to this day.

i don't know what the best has been...I have been in a lot of nice cars...one of the quickest was a kit car from the late 80's, an austin healey bod with a s/c'd 302 under the hood...first time I ever 'caught air' in a car.

For me I'd have to break it down in to best car for X purpose.

I have driven a lot of cars. I wouldn't know where to begin if I had my choice of any number.

I'd like:
a vacation cruiser, something you can pile some luggage in and just comfortable trek cross country.

a 'date night' car, something I don't mind driving and something she doesn't get upset with bouncing her around or having to contort into.

a 1/4 mile terror...just pure torque and speed.

a superb handler.

a big old convert like a 50's car or cadillac eldorado

a big ass truck, something to move stuff as well as just roll around in.

a vehicle that could fit a party of people inside

1994 Cadillac Eldorado, with the 300 HP Northstar V8. It had plenty of power to throw you into the seat and blow past pretty much anyone on the highway. Very luxurious, too.

It was the car I learned how to drive in.

Cobalt SS Supercharged: lots of grunt but the power steering gave little feedback.

Mercedes-Benz C230 Kompressor hatchback: fun little car, Love the style, handled well enough but was not very impressed with the power. Mainly the car is too heavy for a S/C 2L I4.

Lotus Elise. It was, by far, the most fun I've ever had behind the wheel of a car.

I've driven Vettes, a Porsches 911, a BMW M3, M Roadster and many other performance cars. None of them were as brilliant as the Elise. It's just a true drivers car.

Well fuck...it is. If you're going to set me up with a question like this you can be damned sure I'll answer it honestly. Yeah, you can expect that answer from me every time...at least until I drive something better.

Edit-Don't knock it until you've tried it.

My dad's 1973 911S. I've driven some newer BMWs and other fun cars but never have I felt so connected to the car as I do when driving the Porsche. You can feel every part of the car and how it's going to respond something the newer cars are definitely lacking.

First car was at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway's roadcourse. I drove it the day after the North America unveiling at Exotic Cars in Caesar's Palace in Vegas.

Kinda funny, my wife and I are in this picture:

The second one I've driven mostly in Southern California and Nevada. Actually, I drove a few in SoCal, but only one in Nevada. They're fun cars, and surprisingly easy to drive. They're much less skill intensive than an Elise (which I've driven the normally aspirated ones, as well as one GT28RS turbocharged one), and have pretty compliant suspension settings.

I loved driving old VW Bugs. They are so fun to drive whether modded or stock. I love the feeling they have. Especially if they are a ragtop or cabriolet.

Since I grew up during the muscle car era, there's way too many from then to choose just one.

So, aside from those it's a toss-up from the following :

1.) 'Vette I drove on the F1 course at Indy. They had a deal a couple years back that if you re-upped your F1 tickets the day after the race, you could go out on the track and do a few laps. Too many "track nazis" to go fast, but it was a blast still.

2.) I have a friend who's a Ford dealer (Bob Chapman, Marysville, OH) and races Formula Ford in SCCA. He's a "Run Off" regular too, so his car is top notch. Anyways, he let me run some laps at Mid Ohio in it during some test time he had booked, quite good fun, though I came nowhere near the car's max.

3.) Just about anything I get to take out on the Milford Proving Grounds, esp. when it's on the "Sisters" course.

I've owned a '95 Escort, '01 Boxster S, '00 A4 1.8t chipped, '04 330CI (w/perf package I forget the name), '02 325i, and now an '06 G35c. Aside from those I've driven an '02(?) M3, '04(?) Z8, and '01 911.

I'd say in order.. 911/Z8 tie, Boxster S, M3, G35c, 330CI, A4, 325i, Escort.

Edit: I've been a passenger in many a car Mercedes/AMGS, Vettes, Porsches, however, and I'd say the last Ferrari was the most spectacular (it was a 355 F1).

The most fun were an 88 Turbo Coupe, and a 91 Supra turbo... and an F450 dump truck.

The 'best' was probably a Audi A6 v8, whicc I think is the only thing I"ve driven with 300+HP.
