The SATA M.2 Adata SU800 512GB was $119.99 recently. I would rate the SU800 drives as fairly decent. I'm using some of the 128GB ones, they perform fine for casual workloads.

If you are setting the cap firmly at $150, at current prices the Crucial MX300 is tough to beat. It ends up being recommended as a "value" drive by most sites.

Although if you can catch a 850 EVO on sale, that's the one I would personally grab.

On an unrelated note, when looking at the latest SSD Anandtech guide, I saw that Billy now recommends the Intel 600p as a "standard" M.2 drive; Not so much for its performance, but for its price. Although for $8 more than the $180 price listed for the 600p, the MyDigitalSSD BPX is a much better buy in my opinion. It's faster, has a higher TBW endurance, uses MLC, and has a 5 year warranty.

Basically this.

The MX300 is the only one of those that doesn't use single-layer TLC. (Which is an "avoid" IMO.)

This type of details is what get me confused, I am guessing using multi-layer TLC is a bad thing for the MX300?

That list is pretty nice though, see a lot more SSD in my price range! Thanks.

BTW, for my main computer I am using a Samsung 850 EVO, 500 GB. Bought it 2 years ago for $189 and looks like it is still considered great and going for $179ish!

This SSD going into a budget 2-in-1 Dell Laptop, which is why I don't want to pony up any more extra cash. Which why things like that Adata SU800 sound like a good deal.

Yes. The 850EVO also uses multi-layer (3D) TLC.

Sandisk X400 was a good drive that fit that requirement, but IDK if they are still available that cheap or at all.

Yeah I think those were rebadged by WD Blue series and now prices are up across the board Even my go-to planar TLC BP5E is MIA. That thing in 480GB was $112 when it came out.

Hey guys,

I was digging around found Mushkin Reactor which uses MLC still supposedly:

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16820226852

Seems to have comparable review to Samsung EVO from Anandtech:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/8949/mushkin-reactor-1tb-ssd-review/8

Sold Out right now, but Newegg has it for $140. Don't know if it'll be that price using Auto-Notify or not.

EDIT: I should probably add this link. List of 500-512GB SSD.

Today the 500GB 850 EVO is going for about $180 from all the usual vendors. If $150 was my budget, I'd find a way to stretch it to afford that extra $30. You will know where that cash went.
