I would steer away from Intel if you can! The extra money for the processor isn't worth it IMO! Pick up a T-Bird!
If you have a lot of cash, go for the AMD760 chipset motherboard and pair it with DDR Ram, or go for a KT133a chipset board! The KT133a rocks! I have a Abit KT7A-RAID and this system smokes! VIA is about to release the KK266 chipset which will support DDR memory! Just read a review of the MSI KK266 chipset board and it looked promising surpassing the AMD760 chipset and blowing away the ALi Magik1 chipset!
I recommend the following:
AMD760: Abit KG7 (not out quite yet)
Asus A7M133 (doesn't have multiplier adjustments)
KT133a: Abit KT7A-RAID (they also make the KT7A w/o RAID)
Iwill KK266-R (they also make the KK266 w/o)
Asus A7V133 (this comes with RAID, option for audio)
I don't know enough about the ALi Magik1 chipset, but all the benches show that they are somewhat slower(?).
I went with the KT133a over the DDR based solutions, because in most situations, you will only a slight increase if you look at the benches. The difference in RAM price just doesn't justify the added expense (most AMD760 boards range in the $180+ range) and PC2100 ram will run you anywhere from $110+ for 128MB to $210+ for 256MB. PC133 can be had for $45+ for 128MB and $75+ for 256MB. Also, the KT133a motherboards are cheaper in price too!
This is just my opinion... Hope it helps!
