The X has a slightly more powerful CPU than the Evo(Omap is faster clock for clock than Snapdragon) and the GPU is around twice as fast. Droid X also has like ten times the app storage of the Evo.

app storage shouldn't be a factor at all. Froyo includes A2SD

Droid owner and it definately gets the job done. Battery life is the only annoyance, which is where the Droid X seems to shine. If I were in the market for a phone today, the droid x is what i'd get. Samsung's galaxy s line of phones is also pretty nifty - the screen is gorgeous and the size just right (the droid x may be a bit too big for some), but I've had issues with past samsung phone purchases. Reviews point at the company pulling a 180 with the Galaxy phones, but I'll let you beta test and stick to Motorolas and HTCs

Weird question about those phones: I know you can download games on the iPhone, can you get the same games on the Droid X?

Some of the games are available on both. Some games have an equivalent on Android. There are other games that have no equivalent on the Android Market.

I bought the Droid Incredible and in my opinion the Android OS is not as polished or stable as iOS. I do get a surprising amount of application crashes and random apps simply not working every now and then. Not enough to truly bother me, but it is surprising to see on a phone. I expect that kind of shit from Windows.

That being said, the phone is quite nice and definitely a suitable replacement for iOS.

The droidX is the best smartphone out in the market.

I am not just saying that because i own one, but I converted two iphone fanboys (like the iphone vs evo video) in all of 1 minute.

swype litterally made them go omgbbqwtflol

I have this list already made in my head of what the differences are:

DX > iphone:
1. larger screen (4.3 inch vs 3.2)
2. better camera, 8mp vs 5mp
3. WIDGETS (weather, news, fb, twitter, calendar, music, etc.)
4. swype ( best keyboard alive)
5. DLNA (connect to network computer to stream music, pics, videos + HDMI out ( with videos on tv.)
6. android's hacking ability (custom roms, rooting)
- please note here, rooting is availble on the x, and recovery was litterally released 3 hours ago. here custom roms very soon.
7. live wallpapers
8. verizon wireless
9. tethering out the box for free (pdanet), mobile hotspot built in for $20 a month through vzw or free with Wireless Tether once rooted.
10. AppBrain- the ability to search, select, and install software from the market on a regular computer.
11. FLASH. yes right now its flash lite on 2.1, but 2.2 (aka froyo) is coming in a few weeks with FULL flash.
12. Google's assortment of applications, some being android only (the ones with a *), ALL FREE. Navigation* (turn-by-turn), earth, goggles*, translator* (may be wrong on the *), sky map*, maps, barcode scanner* (may be wrong on this too, although there are plenty of barcode scanner apps), etc.
13. FM radio (uses headphones as antenna, but speaker works if headphones plugged in)
14. Metal detector application (uses magnet in phone, only works on magnetic metals of course)
15. alternative texting and email clients. (i use chompSMS and K-9 mail)
16. voice commands for basically everything (everything in 2.2, right now i can use it to search google, open maps or navigation to a place, search and call contacts, and dictate messages)

thats all i could think of at the moment.

iphone > Droid X
1. front facing camera. (only usable over wifi, unless jailbroken, then you get severly laggy video)
2. more pixels (after a certain point, does it really matter? larger screen and less pixels > smaller and more pixels in my opinion)
3. more apps (although the productive and effective ones usually have identicals in android since developers see the growth in android)

Droidx and iphone in similarity
1. wifi, bluetooth, gps.
2. 720p video

these are all I could think of at the moment, feel free to PM me if you feel something should be added or post in the thread

you have to remember though, there are 4 iphones, all come right after the other.

android on the other hand has tens of phones with different OS versions, screen resolutions, etc. many developers havent updated their apps. There are some DX apps with a bar of black or white at the bottom simply because the app wasnt updated yet. does this bother me? not really. people are human. give them some time to update.

Honestly, and I'm not a huge iPhone fan, there really isn't anything else thats as easy to use right out of the box. I used to be a huge WM guy a few years back. With some (alot in the case of WM) tinkering, it was a great phone, but it took time to get it that way. Android, from my limited use, is similar, though much better than WM out of box, but if you're looking for an iPhone like experience, stick with the iPhone. Need a better network? Well, if there's not another Verizon iPhone thread on top of this one, wait a day or two, someone's allways got some (usually useless) info.

Swype? BLEH! There are people who can do 75+ WPM on the iPhone keyboard, which has the best virtual keyboard on the market IMHO. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNcTE5WJGdw Plus iPhones have ShapeWriter, which is the same shit as Swype. I personally don't like either and can type much faster with just the plain ole' virtual keyboard.

With that said I don't care if it's outdated, give me a Palm Pre. WebOS is far far better than Android, I even like it over iOS.

I read reviews on Shapewriter and it's definitely crappier than Swype and no, you cannot type faster on the iPhone than you can with Swype.

What's the Swype record? The highest I can find is 68, there are people who do 75-85 on the iPhone. Swype is not faster for a good typist, it's just faster for the average person.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bet1H1hC4VY/

It's kind of shitty how Samsung deliberately picked a painfully slow iPhone typer to showcase how uber Swype is. I don't even type that fast and I could blow their iPhone typer away. And while I know whoever's typing in the Swype video isn't the fastest Swyper out there, the same can be said for the iPhone guy too.

oh, i love android but gaming on the platform is still very basic. It's not a flaw but just the nature of multiple specs and developers trying to program for the lowest common denominator. iPhone's are pretty decent portable gaming systems, the android not so much.

Though I used to do the how emulation thing - which isn't so bad but still lacks the polish of some of the iOS games I've played.

Swype holds the world speed record for texting so I think it's safe to say it's faster than the iPhone keyboard.

Now that I've gotten used to Swype on my Captivate I could never go back to normal on screen keyboards.

Seriously...why do you have to swear and ruin a perfectly good thread? Some of us browse from work and there is no need for that.

correct me if im wrong but you need itunes to get to the appstore correct? and then you need to sync it to your phone to get the apps

appbrain is simply a website and a phone ap. auto installs from the site to your phone from any comp that can access the site. its pretty god damn amazing actually

if the appstore also does that, then that is also cool

You can buy apps through itunes then sync up. I've used appbrain before so I'm familiar with how it works. I'm not sure if there is a web based one for the appstore, there's appshopper.com, but I'm not sure if it can do that.

The appstore app on the iphone itself is really good, so I've never used anything else.

the iphone will do just about everything you listed once jailbroken.

DX > iphone:
1. larger screen (4.3 inch vs 3.2) - Might not be a plus for everyone - some people like smaller phones
2. better camera, 8mp vs 5mp - the iphone camera is superior, MP's isn't everything
3. WIDGETS (weather, news, fb, twitter, calendar, music, etc.)you can have this on the iphone
4. swype ( best keyboard alive)seems cool but you have to get used to it, i couldn't use it personally
5. DLNA (connect to network computer to stream music, pics, videos + HDMI out ( with videos on tv.)iphone does all of this, not HDMI but has video out if you buy a cable
6. android's hacking ability (custom roms, rooting)custom roms are pretty sweet
- please note here, rooting is availble on the x, and recovery was litterally released 3 hours ago. here custom roms very soon.
7. live wallpapersiphone does this
8. verizon wirelessirrelevant to some
9. tethering out the box for free (pdanet), mobile hotspot built in for $20 a month through vzw or free with Wireless Tether once rooted.you can get an app on the iphone that makes it a hotspot without paying at&t anything extra a month, same with tethering
10. AppBrain- the ability to search, select, and install software from the market on a regular computer.don't get the point but yea, pretty sweet
11. FLASH. yes right now its flash lite on 2.1, but 2.2 (aka froyo) is coming in a few weeks with FULL flash.flash is on the iphone too

thats all i could think of at the moment.

iphone > Droid X
1. front facing camera. (only usable over wifi, unless jailbroken, then you get severly laggy video)its not laggy if you are on a good 3g signal
2. more pixels (after a certain point, does it really matter? larger screen and less pixels > smaller and more pixels in my opinion)the screen looks better on the iphone, take it for what its worth

Iphone has a working flash. I can show you how if you want, it has a toggle in sbsettings so you can turn it off except when you want to go somewhere to watch flash videos. like hulu

EDIT: Go to Cydia and install the following source: http://repo.benm.at/ - its called "Frash"

BTW, since there seems to be a lot you don't know about the iphone - chompSMS and biteSMS are the same thing, one for the android and one for the iphone. I don't mean that in a mean way, it just seems iPhone powerusers know more about android then android power users know about iphones. Its the bias that android users have, that most power users on the iphone dont have. This is the case because hackers had to have the iphone because it was the best out, android has since caught up so a lot of people have converted.

http://www.chompsms.com/contact_us
http://www.bitesms.com/contact_us

A lot of the developers that did iphone apps have started doing android apps. And the fact is, all of the best developers that android has used to be iphone only because iphone was the only thing relevant, now they do it for both.

I agree that this is the best SMS client for both phones. iPhone had it first though, just like with everything
