Serial ATA. There will be no ATA-133. Thank god for that. Serial ATA will be sooo much better...though probably still not as good as SCSI.

Serial ATA is a new specification of IDE/ATA. Instead of using the current ribbon cables that send in parallel, these will send in serial (one bit at a time). That means it will be cheaper to produce, the cables will be normal round cables (much less space and better airflow). It will also eliminate the need for master and slaves. It will also be a lot faster. It will be backwards compatible with current ATA drives and connectors through dongles.

An IBM 75GXP is still (figured quantum or maxtor would've had a better drive by now) the fastest hard drive in the world. At it's max it gets 37MB/sec. The only setup that would go beyond ata66 at this point would be a quad 75GXP configuration, and even then it probably would barely do that. ATA66 is barely nessessary for current drives, so the need for a faster standard is not exactly pressing.

Serial ATA does sound pretty f'n cool though.

Faster than a 15000rpm scsi drive?

I love the IBM 75gxp's and all. Have two of them @45gb each in a building IDE Raid 0 array.

But the fastest hard drives in the world???

Perhaps the fastest IDE's. Undoubtedly the fastest for the money, and damn high end in any event.
