Guys don’t want something that looks like a purse. Both of these bags use really exaggerated hardware, like this zipper is four times larger than a normal zipper, plus the handle is really sturdy—and all of that translates into masculinity.

Ugh. IMO, guys look fine carrying one of the following:

- A gadget bag (laptop, tablet, etc.); should have a shoulder strap, and should be more about functionality and ruggedness than style. Should also be carried to and from work and left in the car when not purposely carrying it in somewhere. If you drive up to buy coffee and walk in with the bag with no real use for it, sorry, it's a purse.
- A briefcase. Not the gadget bags or satchels that people call briefcases these days, but a real, genuine briefcase. Rare, but still passable.
- A backpack. Self-explanatory. Doesn't look professional, hence the gadget bag or briefcase for a work environment.
- Nothing. Keys, phone, wallet, and that's it.

There's nothing wrong (IMO) with some other bag styles, like messengers (real ones) if the suit the individual's situation - for example, someone that bikes everywhere. I just find it stupid that some guys will carry a bag across their chest / resting on their hip everywhere they go and then get offended when someone calls it a man-purse.

There's no correlation between a nice pair of dress shoes, which is a piece of a dress outfit, and a "murse".

Having quality shoes to go with a fine suit or quality dress shirt and slacks is expected, and is in no way "metro"

Carrying a man purse for the express reason of making a fashion statement more than necessity of carrying your belongings is the dictionary definition of it.

Unless you're carrying a laptop, going to the airport, or carrying an abnormally large number of files, papers, and books to and from the office on a regular basis, I will never see the appeal of one.

Honestly, I think a man-purse would be really handy. You could store a tablet, beef jerky, a portable gaming system, all kinds of stuff! I already look like I'm ready for the airport as it is...I carry all of my work & school gear in my backpack and also tote around a picnic-sized lunchbox with my bodybuilding meals.

If there was enough stuff I wanted to carry around with me to justify a man purse I would carry one and not feel the least bit embarrassed about it. But there isn't, so I don't.
