Thanks for the really quick reply!

Does the 6600 or 6600GT have a quiet fan?(this will be replacing a failed 5900 in a quiet PC)

Yeah, for a few bucks more, like 7, you should be able to get an AGP 6600GT, won't be fanless, but it will be alot better card for your money.

Noticed your using an nForce3 board, so most likely you need AGP. AGP 6600GTs are actually cheaper then their PCI-E brethren.

It's going into a K8NS-Ultra 939 NForce3 board(whenever my RMA'd A64 ever gets to me), and will live in a A7N8X-E for now. This box is used for internet, music and occasionally games. Gigabyte also makes a passive 6600GT. So, 6600GT 128MB or 6600 256MB?

6600GT

6600 256 MBs are usually a raging rip-off.

If your budget is tight, get this: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductLi...CategoryCode=012205&SortBy=B&Brand=ATI

9800 Pro will pwn a 6600 256 MB

What's wrong with your 6800GT?

The 9800 Pro is fine, but I dunno about "Ultimate Edition..."

First, this is for a PC other than the one in my sig which was running a FX5900 that died today.

Second, that one I found seems to be fanless and I want to keep noise to a minimum in this PC(it already has Panaflo's and mods to the power supply to quiet it down.) This computer dosen't need the latest hardware for what it's used for(internet, music, older games sometimes).

AGP 6600GTs are more expensive than the PCIe versions because of the HSI bridge chip.

I'd go for the passive Gigabyte 6600GT.

1. What's a HSI bridge chip?
2. I'm considering an ATI as I've never really tried out an ATI before...

Nvidia's PCIe-to-AGP (and vice versa) chip that lets native PCIe GPUs like the 6600GT work in AGP systems, and native AGP GPUs like the 6800GT\Ultra work in PCIe systems.

If that's the case, why are the first 3 6600GTs listed on Newegg (ie the cheapest) AGP cards? The cheapest one is $144, 4 dollars more then the 9800 pro.

Neweggs 6600GTs

Edit: also 9 of the first 10 are AGP versions, check Anands last video card guide.

wtf are you talking about, if his desire for silence is greater than his need to game then the fanless 6600 (silent) would be "a lot better card for his money" He's going to have to pay a decent ammount more for more speed and keep it quiet.

I just got a leadtek 6600GT, it's nice and quiet. I've got it in a SFF case with a pentium-m, and the dvd drive spinning up is about the only thing I can hear.

Actually, it dosen't have to be fanless, now that I think about it. It just has to have a heatsink on it that would allow me to mount a 80mm Panaflo on it. I did it with the Gainward FX5900 by screwing it straight into the heatsink.

Are the Rosewill cards any good, because that one looks like I can mod it with the Panaflo...

definitely get a 6600gt over a radeon 9800. I've been reading alot of reviews and comparisons and from what I've seen the 6600gt beats every version of the 9800 there is even the XT's. It also supports direct x9 and it's newer generation.
