What's considered a good typing speed?

I think "back in the day," 60wpm was considered the minimum to be considered for a secretarial job. No idea what the standard is now.

Under ideal conditions with easy content, I type about 140wpm.

A good speed is probably around 100 or so WPM.

I tend to fat finger things a lot, so my backspace sees a LOT of use.
If I just ignored all the errors, and typed, I'd probably be around 120WPM, but after backspacing and retyping things correctly , I'm much closer to about 90 WPM or so. Thus I'm a slowpoke.

Uncommon words/full keyboard coverage (ie online typing games like typerA): 100WPM
Common words, real sentences (games like typeracer or normal e-mails): 130-150WPM
Well known word sequences or something already planned out in my mind: approaching 200WPM

It depends a lot on the context and also on the effort I put in. The above figures are if I'm actively trying to type fast. If I'm leisurely typing up a post I'll probably do it a little below 100WPM.

I'd say a good speed is anything above 60WPM

From the tests on www.typingtest.com I average about 135WPM. However normally if I'm just relaxing or whatever I'll probably get about 100WPM.

As for what a good speed is... probably 80WPM and up. It used to be 60WPM but now most people I know can do about 80WPM relatively easily.

My speed was tested for work. It wasn't your traditional typing test, slightly different. You had to read the page out of a book and re-type it using a standard qwerty keyboard, which is significantly slower than typing what you see on the screen.

In that test, I reached 106/0. If I could be bothered to learn how to type with all my fingers and not just two fingers from each hand, I imagine I'd be much faster.

We also tried, for fun, to do the same with the monitor off. I had 86/5 or something terribly close to that. Ew.

I'm a fumble-fingered oaf...PLUS, almost every finger on both hands has been broken, jammed, smashed, or dislocated at least once...some many times. Needless to say, I have nasty arthritis in both hands.
During school, I took "beginning keyboarding" to help break some bad habits. My BEST speed was about 75 wpm with 98% accuracy, but when I took a typing test a week or so, I ended up with a net of 45 wpm. Not the best, not gonna get me a sexretarial job...

about 120. Although I really don't care about accuracy most of the time and like hitting the backspace a lot.

What's yours?

Not sure what it is now [maybe around 100wpm] - but back in the day when I worked as a "data entry specialist" in a room full of women [very difficult to get any typing done] - I had the fastest fingers in the department [mwahahaha].
