my fcpga 500e used to run all day and night @ 840mhz on my old p3c2000, when it got recalled i got a p3v4x instead, and since then it will only do 740mhz (cause the 150/155/160/166 fsb's just don't work properly) so now i have to buy a new processor cause this fewlish mobo will just not let me run at 800mhz+ again
all u people with 500/550e's they are capable of 800mhz+ if ur running at less then u either have another component that is the problem, NOT the cpu, u don't even need a peltier to hit over 800mhz!!
if ur using a peltier (alphacowboy) then ur risking ur system because it just doesn't need it!!!!!!!
noticing alot of u use the p3v4x, this is the component that is not letting you overclock higher. i am being sent a cuv4x for test next week and hope to see how well it runs fsb's over 140 (where the p3v4x struggles). so ur p3's are capable of more mhz, so stop blaming the poor little cpu's, and start blaming via and asus, and that crappy clock generator.
the i815 might be a good chipset to try next, 133fsb and pc133 support, especially if it runs upto 170fsb as stably as the 1820 did (bar the faulty ones)
biohazard,
i had the same mobo as u and the highest bus speed i got working was 174fsb, which gave me 870mhz from my 500e (1.7v's) i have the si-soft benchmarks to prove it. if everyone here put their 500/550's on that mobo they are going to hit around the 900mhz mark. if only the memory speed was better on that mobo then i would have kept it, but 280/300 mb/s is a bit pooey for my system that does lots of file compressing/uncompressing and games. mem speed on my p3v4x is 380/427 and it will crunch seti units in 5hrs!!! the i820 used to take 6hrs 45mins.
u might have lots of mhz but u aint gonna be faster. (reason why i changed mine). Oh and btw u had better return ur p3c2000 cause its been recalled.
hmm my fingers feel tired now
