what's everyone spending their christmas bonus on?

Being a freelance photographer and a real estate agent, there are no bonuses from anybody coming

But had a closing on a medium-sized $615K property the other day, a small closing for $350K in a few days, and then a closing for $800K tentatively scheduled for early next year. Once that $800K commission check lands, I'll probably do a little Christmas Bonus style purchase. Probably new wheels for my bike!

It ultimately gets taxed the same at the end of the year (just more up front when it is paid out). But since you're at the end of the year you'd get it back pretty quickly if you do your taxes quickly.

I don't get a Christmas bonus, just a yearly in April (I think? I don't pay a ton of attention and have only been here for 1 bonus so far) but my wife's came 2 weeks ago which I forgot about, so that more than covered all of our poor financial decisions this last month

But, I did 50% of my bonus into 401k this year, I'll probably do something similar next year. If it was closer to the end of the year like this, I might take more of it though paid out.

Having taxes taken (or not taken) is up to you.

We get annual bonuses in March - the announcement meeting in Feb. is two minutes of the VP saying "good job folks, it's X% this year" and twenty-eight minutes of the HR person patiently explaining-and-re-explaining how and by what date/time to submit an updated I-9 to the website so you get nothing taken out of your bonus check, then another by the following Thursday to resume normal deductions before the next pay period.

I guess if I count the last paycheck of the year reduction in the 401K contribution as a bonus, I'm spending my $14.72 on lunch for my wife and I at a roach coach.

My company's fiscal year ends at the end of June I believe... sooo ...yeah, I get my raise/bonus around July/August or so.... As much as I want it, I get 0 excess income in the month of November/December.

That said, when I do get a bonus I treat myself to a few beer bombers that I wouldn't normally buy that are priced $15-20 instead of $8-12.

EDIT: That said, I'm glad to say I have enough savings (and monthly income) that I never give a shit about when I want to spend money. This month we decided to replace our builders-grade carpet and HOLY SHIT is it a million times better. The house doesn't smell like shit. The carpet is nice to walk on. Definitely an awesome investment that will pay off when selling the house in a few years.

When we get our tax return this year, we're using it to rip OUT carpet instead of putting it in. When we bought our house the carpet was brand new and really nice looking. But it's in a high traffic area and now that we had a kid, it's turned to complete shit. We are going to put in matching hardwood with the other 2 floors of the house instead. Good riddance to carpet IMO. The only place we'll be keeping it in our house is the guest room (on that same floor) and in my HT because it's in my basement and cold as hell down there, has not much traffic, and for acoustical reasons.

I left my annual bonus in the checking account. I'm gonna let money accumulate until I decide to replace my car. Probably some time in 2017, or maybe 2018 ...

I won a company quality award which came with a $25 Visa gift card so I'll consider that my bonus because I don't think we're getting any (none last year and maybe year before). From everything I've seen the company is doing great, but I guess that's not reason enough for bonuses. I'm sure we'll all get huge raises though.
