What's everyone using for domain registry?

I use DomainIT. Their support was great when I was trying to run away from itsyourdomain when they got bought by hover. Wow that was a disaster. LOL.

I think they do have email. I know they have hosting and stuff.

How long does a domain transfer take? I've got 2 .us domains as my primary domains and they're charging $20 a year at godaddy. I'm lookin to transfer to namecheap

Transfers can be a pain in the butt. Depends on how hard the losing registrar makes the process. I've seen weeks to months. Some registrars wont let you transfer at all, such as Network Solutions. NEVER EVER register a domain there. The company I work for did that mistake. Now they are locked into paying something ridiculous like $50/year per domain, and can't transfer out.

I can't remember exactly, I think up to 48 hours?

Just make sure your old domain isn't recently registered or expires soon, it's unlocked, valid e-mail address etc. Check your e-mail frequently, click approve, enter the code (if required) then it's pretty quick after that.

Hmm yeah, if it expires within 30 days or something I think you have to wait to transfer, or something like that. I forget the rule.

Also never let a domain get close to expiring or worse, get to the point of expiring. It's a huge pain in the butt and will probably cost you a lot to keep it. personally I like to have at least a year of buffer for domains I want to keep but I'm not that sure. For the ones I'm really sure I just go ahead and renew for whatever the max is (10 years in most cases).

Really? I could not stand their UI when Its Your Domain got bought out by them. I found it was a pain in the ass especially for managing multiple domains. Unless it's better now? I know the UI was a big complaint by lot of people.
