Wow! When I had mine done 20 years ago, my doctor, nor the specialist asked for my wife's permission. I would have been extremely pissed if they had.

So a woman can get an abortion without the father's consent because it's her body, her choice - right?

I have an appointment with a doctor next week because I'm going to get the big V - hopefully ensuring that my total baby count remains at 0. My wife has to go along and sign a consent form, or else the doctor will refuse to do the vasectomy.

If the doctor does the surgery without the wife's consent, then your wife has grounds to sue since she has claim over your little swimmers and them getting her pregnant. It is all liability - Dr. does care one whit if you want a baby or not.

My doc just made quadruple sure I was ok, and asked it was a family decision. With three kids already in the stable, the answer was a definitive YES.

wait what? why would she get a hysterectomy? she can get her tubes tied and do it.

im amazed she found a doctor to do a hysterectomy at 34 with no medical reason.

She had severe endometriosis, but the primary reason for the operation was pregnancy prevention.

Most likely a CYA legal thing. I don't believe there is any law in any state requiring this, but I would be surprised if many/most insurance companies didn't require it as a way of reducing the likelihood of a lawsuit.
