been marinating a chuck steak in vinegar, dijon mustard, a little soy sauce, chopped garlic, dried rosemary/thyme. thinking of pan searing it hot for a few seconds on both sides then slow-roasting it ~250-300 for an hour? what say you OT, I don't really do chuck steaks.

then, penne with a chanterele & garlic sauce, that has become a recent fav. yum.

have you tried Trader Joe's winter Festival ale yet? I'm normally "meh" on it, but it is really, really good this year.

at ~$4/750ml, you can't beat it.

i havent, but i considered it when i was there last. grabbed a sam smith celebration instead. but, since it takes almost nothing to talk me into trying a beer ill have to pick one up.

ya. GF turned me onto chanterelle sauce, as she grew up with it. we buy them fresh at the grocery store. she just reduces them in butter with salt.


recently, I threw in some minced garlic and a wee bit of olive oil and didn't let it reduce completely--left it a bit saucy and tossed with pasta. so easy and tasty.

it would make a great topping for mashed potatoes, I think. I'll add a sprig of thyme and some crushed red peppers this time.

Ohhhh, that sounds good! Ingredients... check. I kind of forgot to eat for most of the weekend; I'm very hungry. Started making beef soup over the weekend, but changed my mind and decided to make French onion soup instead. The broth is incredible right now... Tastes incredible. But... I was out of onions. I'll add the onions tonight and probably have it for dinner tomorrow (plus need rye bread & the right type of cheese.)
