What's for dinner?

Had Tri-tip steak yesterday. It was my first time cooking and eating tri-tip. It was good but from the West Coast and internet hype, I was expecting more. It was well worth the $1.80 something per pound I paid but I trimmed almost 5 pounds of fat from 16 pounds of tri-tip.

Tonight we grilled some pork belly and pork tenderloin. I love grilling thin slices of unseasoned meats and dipping it in ponzu sauce with some jalapenos, sweet, and green onions. Then wrapping the meat in piece of lettuce, cilantro, thinly sliced cucumbers, and red radish. This is my favorite way to eat pork belly.

I also have 10 pounds smoked pork picnic in the oven but I'm too full to eat. I think I'll just give that to my puppy.

My wife and I got to talking about what to do for Cinco de Mayo which is more of an American holiday now than it is a Mexican holiday. And since we live in Tucson, where Spanglish is a high art, we thought what better way to celebrate than bring together the classic Sonoran hotdog and America's favorite food, SpaghettiOs.

The kraut's a little spendy, but delicious. The hotdogs are a specialty product without nitrites. Haven't had this brand(forgot what it is) yet, but I'm reasonably certain they can be had at Aldi for a couple bucks less. I'm not really in the mood for anything aside from kraut, and the wienies will help bulk it up a little.

That's a waste of good sauerkraut. Put a little more time into it and do some pork spareribs with kraut.

Just had my olive salad I took for lunch Friday, but didn't eat. It's half a can of black olives, some kalamata olives, stuffed grape leaves, sliced jalapeño from a jar, and feta cheese.
