looks like a whole shitstorm has taken place with amazon banning people, without giving much information as to the reason why. They're also ending their 30 day price guarantee starting September 1st :/

they're banning people's amazon accounts completely. Some pretty big threads about it over on slickdeals and fatwallet, but nobody seems to have a clue why it's happening.

Seller's accounts or accounts in general?

It would help if you post a damn link on whatever the hell you're talking about.

Ok, I'm feeling nice, so I'll post the slickdeals thread.

Hello from Amazon.com.

A careful review of your account indicates you've experienced an extraordinary number of incidents with your orders and corresponding shipments.

In the normal course of business, the occasional problem is inevitable. The rate at which such problems have occurred on your account is extraordinary, however, and cannot continue. Effective immediately, your Amazon.com account is closed and you are no longer able to shop in our store.

Please know that any accounts related to yours have also been closed. If you were to open a new account, the same will result and it will also be closed. In the event that you attempt to do so, we will not accept the return of any additional orders, nor will we issue further refunds in connection with any future orders. We appreciate your cooperation in refraining from using our web site.

If you require additional assistance, or have any concerns, feel free to contact us directly at account-appeals@amazon.com.

Please do not contact regular Customer Service again, as they will no longer be able to assist you.

Regards,

Account Specialist

From the sound of it, looks like these people are habitual purchase return/refund abusers. The same people who forced Costco to change their generous return policy. I say good for Amazon.

They really should stop using USPS for shipping, too.

I like USPS shipping. I live in an apartment building with no door person. USPS can at least get in and leave the package with the mail. UPS/Fedex/DHL, a roommate or I have to be around to sign or open the door for the guy.

Ending the 30 day price guarantee? That sucks. So much for my continued use of refundplease.com. Though, the only time I asked for a refund was when a DVD dropped in price by $4. The other few times it's tipped me off of a drop, it was only $1 or $2, so I didn't bother.

Meh, BFD. Abuse the site, you deserve to be banned. I don't believe any of their "innocent" stories at FW or SD.

Amazon has the best customer service of any online retailer I've ever dealt with. They're one of the few that I'll order big ticket items from, knowing they'll stand behind it if something goes wrong. My dad once ordered an espresso machine as a gift for a relative, and it showed up dented to hell, parts broken etc. Amazon cross-shipped a new one, no questions asked. I realize that's what they SHOULD do in that situation, but customer service is one of the first things to go in the online retail world. If people are getting cut off because they abused the support, they deserve it.

Yeah, the way some of those people act is just ridiculous. On a recent Best Buy offer, where you could get $100 off laptop purchase for signing up for internet service (they had a bunch of ISPs), there was one person who did it 14 times (where they setup an account using a dummy address and then would cancel it immediately). Because of a misprint on the online ad (a computer was listed as having 160GB drive when it had 120GB) they were also calling them up multiple times trying to get gift cards when they didn't even have any intention of buying the computer.

I think I've only ever returned one item to Amazon and it was pretty hassle free. I can definitely understand them banning some people though.

Thread of Note

Usually I'd chalk it up to the fact that SDers probably deserve it, but if you read some of the stories of the people who got banned, it seems pretty undeserving in a lot of the cases. Of course, they may not be letting on the whole story, but most of the stuff I've heard doesn't sound banworthy from a major e-tailer.

Well, I glanced through that thread, and at the moment it does seem to be somewhat arbitrary, but only Amazon knows what the people they've banned have in common. It doesn't appear that they've necessarily been banned either, as it seems Amazon has put them on hold. Only time will tell what ends up happening, but it does appear there is some significant changes in store for Amazon shoppers in the future.

The people at SD are some of the stingiest, cheapest, and unethical people there are. It's a moral vacuum over there.

WHAT??? Link?

Yeah. I found out about this today. It's a bit of a surprise.

Oh well. I looked for the link, but it's broken just now. Go to the Help page and search 'pricing'.

I, for one, have no complaints to make against Amazon. Their customer service is great.

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I love amazon, I buy lots through them including my 50" LCD TV, no way are they cancelling my account lol.

These people are known lying cheating people....look at what one person said....

seriously, all that have been banned, you have my sympathy.

I have been banned for Staples and Officemax, so I know what it is like. All I did in those cases was buy a ton of stuff, I never returned anything.

Get's banned from TWO places and he did nothing wrong? Bull shit.

more like "bought a bunch of stuff and hassled the hell out of multiple CSRs over stacking rebates and coupons and PM's"

i dont know about the guys at SD, but FW has some hardcore crazy people as well when it comes to trying to screw a company for a buck. im all for people taking advantage of a good deal but sometimes it just gets ridiculous what someone will go through.
