Whats holding me back?? Im frustrated!!

I have a Asus P4P800 Deluxe, P4 2.6C, and Kingston HyperX PC3200 2x512MB. I can do 245FSB (3120MHz) just fine and stable @ 1.525 (reported as 1.55V in CPU-Z). But if I go over 245 (even just 247), Prime95 shoots out some hardware failure error. I even brought it up to 1.6V in the BIOS and it still did the same thing (so I lowered it down quickly lol)! Is it my ram? Voltage is 2.65V on that (VDIMM). I have it at 5:4 divider, so the memory stays under 200MHz (its at like 196-197 now). I just can't figure it out! Memory timings are CAS2 (my memory is rated for this but it crashes at 2.5 also), 3,2,5,4. But it also crashes when DIMM timings are set via SPD.

Congrats, you have found the max overclock of your CPU. We are a spoiled bunch when a 585mhz overclock fustrate us.

Try raising the VDIMM to 2.8V....

No go with the VDIMM, it said the same error. Anyway, I lowered the voltage down to 1.525V (CPU-Z says 1.532V), VDIMM back down to 2.55V, and FSB to 240, and its 3.12GHz of P4 goodness! I noticed in my first post I said 245FSB, and I was half asleep when I wrote that, I meant that 240 was stable but anything over 240 is unstable. I tightened the timings to CAS2 2,3,5,4 and it seems to be working well.

Pretty good overclock for a 1.525 vcore. An addicional 520mhz is not something to sneeze at.

Im still using the stock retail hsf, but I replaced the thermal crap with AS5, which lowered temps about 5C. Im happy with this OC, dont get me wrong, I only wanted to hit like 2.8!

every cpu has its own glass ceiling that it cant go pass , be happy with what you got.

i know of some forums members who couldnt even get 2.65ghz, as in no oc period. i was giggling like a little girl when i got my 2.6c at 3.0ghz, but i know it can run 3.2ghz for sure, im just not sure if something is wrong that im missing.

I have a similar setup, it went a bit more though. Just looks like your chip is at the ceiling.

Agree, I had the same board, the same chip, I used Geil memory and it was PC 4000 and the ceiling was at 245-247 as well. Not bad. I sold the PC. Try another one.

My first 2.6C topped at 249FSB, the one i have now tops out at 271.. So ya, sell that one and try a new one if you want more speed.
