From talking to our AMD rep at work, not much further. Apparently we'll be seeing a new release around October but untill then the platform will probably just get a little better in terms of pricing and availability.
2.8 for sure, 3.0 seems likely, however I believe the switch to dual core will be a bigger deal. As for whats next after that, that is a good question indeed.
It looks as though K9 which is scheduled for some time this year is actually just the dual-core K8s, probably using the 'M2' socket.
K10 - the next generation core, is scheduled for 2006 I believe.
man, there really is no good time to upgrade in the near future, there will be a new CPU out from AMD about every week. i think i'll hold off and see what the fall holds in store.
