What's so special about Jagemeister?

I thought it was stronger than 80 proof, but I looked at a bottle and it was only 70 proof, less than vodka. I've been hearing stories about this stuff for years, but I don't see what's the big deal about it.

Maybe a different blend? I know that with say, Wild Turkey, there are about three different types, the rare breed being the most potent and, in my opinion the best over all because it is aged longer (8 or 12 years?).

It tastes good with none of the harshness found in other liquor (Jagermeister is a Liqueur). Therefore, one can drink alot very quickly before feeling the effects. I've heard (I don't drink it...I'll stick with scotch) that it can cause hallucinations.

I haven't had any in a while, never caused any hallucinations. However, we did start listening to Wesley Willis one time, and I repeatedly fell out of my chair.

OK, I was bored...sifting through old threads looking for the right one to bring to the top. Here goes...

Jagermeister...Hmm, where do I start. First I'd have to say the it is not only a liqueur, but some type of mind Altering drug.

Back in my drinking days, I could handle my share and then some of Alcohol. But no matter how drunk or not drunk I was, Jeagermeister always had a "different" effect on me. It would throw my attitude to either rail, pissed or exstatic. It would take a mild mannered man and make him a lover or a fighter.

I heard somewhere that it has deer blood in it.

Jager is really nasty. Back in the day (about a year ago ), I used to drink liquor like water. There was a really bad night involving jager, picante sauce, and pickle juice. Now, just thinking about the flavor is enough to turn my stomach. It's bad enough taking it in a shot like liquid cocaine or something. But we were wasted and wanted to be creative...

edit: Proof isn't the end all be all of how bad something alcoholic is. For instance, a shot of 151 burns way more than a shot of Everclear. And Everclear is about as close to pure alcohol as you get. Atleast, as close as I dare get.

OT but SufferinSuccotash reminded me of one of those college boozing stories. I remember buying my friend Timdogg one hell of drink on his B-day. He is usually a champ and can pound them back all night but he got caught off guard on this one.

3 Wisemen (One shot each of Johnnie Walker, Jack Daniels, Jim Beam) with one shot of Wild Turkey 101 tossed in for good measure. All this was chased with big frosty mug of Miller Draft. He didn't toss his cookies but he turned about 5 shades of green and need lie down for a while.

One of the harder shots that I've taken is called a flamin' frogs ass. All I know is that it's greenish red, tastes kind of fruity but leaves your mouth feeling like it got sprayed with hairspray, and they set it on fire.

Jaegermeister is wild stuff. I agree that it's more mind-altering than just "regular" alcohol. I can only handle that stuff on rare occasions. I'm getting the shakes just thinking about it now.

I think its got to be some kind of halucinogen (did I spell that right?). I did like 10 shots of it at my bachelor party. I buddy of mine told me that I babbled incoherently for like half an hour straight. BTW, the Jagermeister happened AFTER 2 Long Island Ice Tea's and a dozen beers, so who knows if it was the Jager......
