Posts to torrents are posted on usenet simultaneously. But torrents ( web based, like Pirate Bay,) get jammed up by ISPs and p2p can be slow anyway. Usenet offers an exclusive, separate pipe, so the d/l of files is at full bandwidth. Admittedly it costs a monthly subscription.

Usenet is not competition for streaming porn but what it does best tho is everything else, like movies, TV series, sports events, basically everything on TV and in theaters of any significance. See e.g., https://nzbplanet.net/movies
https://www.gingadaddy.com/nzbbrowse.php and https://www.oznzb.com/movies.

At ~ $10.00 pm, for nntp and leaching software subscriptions, it is cheap.

(Of course all this is contrary to copyright so excuse me for tempting you with illegally obtained material.If you have ethical concerns, please ignore my ramblings.)
Son, I was NNTPing in the very early 1990's. I know what is on there, but assumed most of it was adult related. I get all of the other stuff, but the overwhelming bulk is of a trade that is questionable. Not taking the moral high ground, but I gave up on NNTP a couple of years ago when the software readers could no longer manage the tens of millions of threads from the nearly year-long retention and reader software nowhere near capable of such handling.

In fact, with my lonely 16GB of RAM on an i7 desktop it continuously ran out of memory trying to load the headers of any one group. Tried as I may to get hellp in a better approach (both on here and through giganews) but in the end just gave nntp up.

Well dad, doubt you go back further than I do, but you are plumb out of date. All media content is now indexed and available through nzb sites where the nzb files linked the specific content, newsgroup and file. Try looking at the sites I provided. No need to search the old way, using the newsreader, no one does that unless you want to find out who killed JFK.The nzb bots do the leg work while the subscriber just chooses the media content and d/l the files.

I think it's funny that some people think there couldn't possibly be a reason some people may make use of a gigabit connection for legit/legal reasons. In many markets, there's often little or no choices between 50/15 and Gigabit. Is 50/15 enough for the average user? Sure. But if you're in a home with multiple gamers/streamers or if you do online backups, you can kill that upload speed in a hurry.

There are plenty of legitimate reasons for needing gigabit, however, you do not know the OP.

I have 50/50 and I don't even know what to do with them, let alone 1,000.

Gaming = Has very little to do with bandwidth. Ping is what matters.
Streaming = Zero factor

WTF do I need to DL anymore nowadays? Everything is streaming. If I do DL, it's mere 5-7 mins for 4-5 gigs.

Sure it's nice to have more speed, but I have little need for it at extra cost + setup costs.

Your math is off. 5 Gigabytes at 50 megabits per second would take 13 minutes and 20 seconds.
