Whats the best 21\22" monitor for around $1000?

I have a 19" KDS Avitron right now but want a bigger and badder monitor. What should I be looking for and far as image quality and gaming are concerned? I was looking at the Samsung 1200nf and the Sony g500. They look like good choices possibly. Thanks!

You're looking in the right direction. The 1200NF is the best monitor using the Mitsubishi Diamondtron tube, and the G500 is the best using the Sony Trinitron tube. Personally, I'd get the 1200NF because it's less expensive and has just as many, if not more, features. Specs are about the same too.

great choices, get the sony if you've got the cash, but the samsung is not a bad choice either.

EDIT: actually you just might want to go for the samsung because of their great customer service. If your monitor gets fu*cked up within the first year, then they will pay shipping both ways to get it fixed or replaced. After that you pay shipping one way, unless you have an authorized mailbox etc. in your area and you can give it to them and they will ship for free.

Iiyama 510 Pro. 2048x1536@85Hz. Beautiful picture and colors, crystal clear. Everyone always is amaze with this monitor. I usually just run it at 1024x768 for a very big picture. Having it running at 150Hz with my Geforce 2 GTS 64 megger.

First, I wanted to buy viewsonic pf815 but now since it has been discontinued and replaced with p220f(which doesn't look impressive to me all to me) I had to search for a different monitor.

Right now I'm trying to decide which one to buy, either Samsung 1200NF or Iiyama 510 Pro. 1200NF sounds more appiling to me. I've also read somewhere that 1200nf has moire at 1600 x 1200 resolution. Can this be confirmed?

Yesterday, I saw an ad in latest PC World magazine for Viewsonic P225F. Must be a new model, but could not find it on their web site.

I bought 1200NF from Onvia. After two weeks of arguing and threatening to sue, I finally managed to get them issue an RMA for it. The major problem with it is that it has a serious ghosting at just about every resolution/refresh rate with my Leadtek Geforce2 64M card. Plus, yes, it has moire at 1280x1024 and above. The moire control in the menu does nothing except making the focus terrible.

slucky, if you see my post above I've asked about moire at 1600 x 1200 resolution (1200nf) and if what I've heard could be confirmed. So I guess now I've heard about moire problem from two sources. I'm just not sure if this is caused by the video card, I have 3DLabs Oxygen VX1, or is it the monitor itself.

Most likely I will buy iiyama master vision pro510. But, still thinking.

i'm sitting here in from of my samsung 1200nf.. i'm running it at 1600x1200@85 and have no problems with it whatsoever.. using a geforce2 gtscard too..
good value for the price i paid.. $780

The ghosting slucky is talking about isnt the monitor's problem-Its a well known problem with certain video cards with nvidia chipsets. I had the same problem when I switched from a TNT2U to a Geforce.

Please don't get me wrong here. You've been very helpful and you were one
of the people who made me consider buying 1200nf. Thank you for that.
When I said spacecadet is funny I didn't mean that he's wrong
and talking nonsense. I meant it in a different way (talking about sense of humor) heh.
Then I said I was confused and I'm still am , because from one sourse I hear
that this monitor has problems and from another I hear nothing but good
comments.

OK... now that everything is cleared up, Im going to fire it up. Anyone can get a lemon, that always happen, regardless of which brand. I've seen and heard of Sony lemons, KDS lemons, Samsung lemons, Iiyama lemons, Mitsubishi lemons, all kinds of lemons. The Samsung 900NF for example, if you ask the owners, you'll find that a majority of them do have a nice monitor without any noticable problems, and then there are ones that arent as lucky with a problematic one. Chances are, you will get a good one, these so-called "problems" varies from monitor to monitor, and from person to person. Every monitor is like a finger print, everyone of them is slightly different, plus the fact that everyone has got a different pair of eyes, you can't avoid being not perfect.
