So my lovely HP Pavilion 27 xi LED 1080p 60Hz monitor is going out. I need to replace it with a comparable one, but I’m a little out of the loop. Here’s what I want. A 27 inch LED IPS flicker-free monitor. I’d like to get one with a refresh rate of up to 75Hz. I would like to get a 120 or even 144Hz monitor, but I only have an i7 4790k with 32GB of DDR3 RAM and most importantly, an MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Gaming 8G, highly overclocked. I can pretty much match a stock GTX 1080. Anyway, I can’t afford a G-sync monitor. I’d love to get a 144Hz monitor, but since I can’t afford a G-sync monitor, I don’t think I can get a 144Hz refresh rate because 1070 can’t maintain 144 FPS. This is what I’m not sure of. I’ve heard that if you don't have a G-sync monitor or a Freesync monitor and are getting say 60 FPS on a 144Hz monitor say, it’s going to look like you’re getting 30 FPS on a 60Hz monitor. I don’t know if that’s true or not, so that’s why I’m asking.

To stay on the safe side, I just want to get a monitor that supports a 60Hz refresh rate, but some users say on the Q & An in Newegg that some reviewers have been able to get their monitors up to 72 to 75Hz using NVidia’s control panel. I know my monitor can do that. I’m also looking at getting a 2K monitor like the Acer K2 Series K272HUL 27 LED IPS 4ms monitor. It’s a 2K monitor, so it’s 2560x1440 with a 75Hz refresh rate. Two things I’m not sure about is the screen. I think it’s a matte screen and I want a glossy screen. The other thing is the base. I can live with that. I’d like to know if that monitor can actually support 72 or 75Hz. Does it make that much difference, a 2K monitor that is, even if I can only get 60Hz or should I just stay with a 1920x1080P? Also, my HP that I have now has a flicker. I can only really tell for sure when I take a pic with my cell phone.

There are a few other monitors, but the other one is a 1080P, a DELL SE2717Hx 27. It says it has 75Hz with HDMI, but I can’t confirm that. Is that true? The last thing is (and I think all of these will do this) is I want to make sure I can connect an HDMI cable to my 1070 and route the video to my Samsung 46inch TV too. That’s what I do with my HP. I just have an HDMI cable running from my GPU to my TV. I’m assuming I can do this with any modern monitor now. I’m pretty sure this Dell has a glossy screen, which is what I want!

The other 1080P 27-inch monitor I like is the LG 27MP59G 27. It too says it has a 75Hz refresh rate. The only thing is I believe it has a matte screen. I just want the most vibrant colors and the sharpest picture I can get. I’m pretty sure this LG definitely supports 75Hz though, while the Dell, might or might not.

Which monitor would you gamers out there recommend? Again, what I want is a clear picture, no flicker, glossy screen, 75Hz (if that really makes that much of a difference and I’ve been reading even 15Hz more does) and IPS for certain. I’m not sure if a 2K screen will be that much better. If it is, then I want it, but it looks like I have to choose (with my budget) between a 1080P FHD 75Hz panel, or a 1440P QHD 60Hz panel. Thanks in advance!!!

Better to work around a dollar amount for any upgrade IMO.

What is the max you'd like to spend and are you buying in the US or abroad?
