What's the best coffee you've had?

I've decided to buy myself a coffee maker and a grinder to make use of some Kona that a coworker gave me from his vacation in Hawaii.

However, since the Kona won't last me forever I'll need to buy coffee at the store (or online).

What do YOU recommend ATOT?

Depends. At 0500 in the morning, before a 16hr work shift after 4 hours of sleep, McDonald's coffee is the best.

Kona is absolutely mediocre. It's a great marketing success, and I think it's great that coffee is grown in the USA, but it isn't worth the asking price. I gave up looking for custom coffees, cause so many of them were overpriced for the quality. My goto is 8 O'Clock French roast, and while it may not be the best, it's fairly easy to find, priced well, and reliable.

My local roaster has an Ethiopian dry processed bean that is incredible. It has some of the most interesting flavor of any brew of coffee I've experienced. It almost has a ruddy chocolate color to it.

Otherwise, it's usually Colombian of some sort. I'm not too picky because I like all coffee. Except the cheap shit like Folgers, stuff is gross.

Just wait til you're about finished with the Kona. I like to rotate after a bag or two. Some of the ones I liked are Lavazza Super Crema, Magnum Jamaican Blue Mountain Blend, and Ruta Maya Organic Dark. Cheap and readily available at Costco or Amazon.

I had a wonderful cup in a quiet restaurant away from all the busyness in Athens. Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to try out Turkish coffee while I was in Turkey.

Do you guys make your own espresso blends? If so, let's have them. We bought an espresso maker for Christmas and we just bought a bag of Starbucks espresso mix to use to play with it, but we obviously want to branch out a little. Any suggestions?

Also, any suggestions on a good coffee grinder with an espresso setting?

This is what I use as a grinder. It'll grind as coarse or fine as you like. Perhaps not Turkish coffee fine, but I've never tried that...

True.....it's pretty good if it's not too strong. I had the samples at the Kauai Coffee Company, and didn't care for the samples...they were a little strong to my liking... It wasn't like my senses were escalated because I was in Hawaii... I had breakfast in this really dive of a motel in Kapaa on Kauai... I typically drink 1-2 cups of coffee with breakfast. I think I had 8 refills.... =)

Now...for domestic coffee. I think Dunkin Donuts & 8 O'Clock Regular is pretty good...the DD is just a little lighter. Starbucks House Blend is hit or miss and is the strongest of the domestic blends that I drink...but can be welcome when struggling to stay awake.

I had some etheopian coffee at "the coffee bar" in SF... i believe it was etheopian, but there were undertones of blueberry and it was so damn good...

Mandheling or Lintong? I prefer the Mandheling, medium-dark roast.

Ethiopian is my favorite by far.

Harrar, Yirgacheffe or Sidamo? Harrar medium roast for me. This also blends well with Java or Sumatran Mandheling in a similar roast.

Why ruin good coffee with imitation filbert flavoring?

edit: I forgot to post the best I've had; strangely enough it was Chinese coffee from Hunan. Very rich and smooth.

i usually stick to their original, brewed extra strong. not outstanding, but affordable, easy to find, and drinkable black.
